It is hard, if ever possible, to see anything helpful that men has discovered that God did not already establish in his word. As a matter of fact, men always has to catch-up, because God is always many step away from men. So, man always has to discover what God had created or had known already.
The concept of emotional intelligence has become more a very powerful discuss today, such that is being taught everywhere, and is highly celebrated. But God has taught us about emotional intelligence thousand years before mankind discovered name for it.
Emotional intelligence is your ability to recognize and understand emotion in yourself and others, and to use this awareness to manage your behavior and relationship. The human brain is divided into two main parts, the limbic system (which is the center for feelings and the rational thinking area of the brain). All information that you receive either by hearing, reading or even observation from actions, first find their way to your feeling center. They are first processed as emotions, they first make you to generate feelings.
As such, the mistake people make is to act on the initial feelings that it brings without subjecting it to the rational thinking center of the brain. Your actions will most likely be wrong, because you didn't wait to allow the rational side of your brain process that information.
This is exactly what James was teaching in the opening text without calling it emotional intelligence. He said by the Spirit of God, that we be quick to hear but be slow to wrath, or to act, since all information received will first hit your limbic system (or feeling center). You are to delay your actions, and give yourself sometime to allow the information received to hit your rational area, and this takes time.
And James says that we be slow to speak (act) and slow to wrath (or conclude). This wisdom is also called emotional quotient or emotional leadership.
intelligence quotient is not enough this days. You will mess up your marriage without this wisdom. You will mislead people and abuse your authority without this understanding. Many have disowned their children without this wisdom approach. Receive wisdom from this verse of scripture:
"A fool uttereth all his minds: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards" (Proverbs 29:11)
