FAMINE IN THE LAND

Hello beautiful people. Hope you all are doing great today. Continuing from where we stopped, we talked about how God promised Abram to make him and his descendants great in the last lesson. Now lets continue with our lesson. We are presently on chapter 12 of the book of Genesis.

Now it happened that there was a famine in the land they were, I hope you know what famine means. It means scarcity of food in the land. So because of this, Abram went to Egypt to stay there for a while so that the famine won't overwhelm them and they won't go hungry.

12:11-13 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon. Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

Hmmmm see what leaving your comfort zone can do. All because there was famine, they had to live an uncomfortable life when they are outside. Abram knew what could happen if they made themselves known as couples. Well I really can't say why but I'm thinking its because Sarai was beautiful to behold and the people of the land will want to take her from her husband. But still my thought is, even as she was supposed to act as Abram's sister, did it stop anyone in the land to take her as wife? Meaning it will still be the same thing. Anyway lets move forward...

12:14-16 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair. The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

You see what I was saying? It was mentioned here that when they saw her, they noted that she was fair, being fair here doesn't just mean she was light in complexion but a beauty to behold and so wanted Pharaoh to have her just like that. They even treated Abram well because they felt he is her brother but guess what happened?

12:17-20 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife. And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

Imagine that, even though Abram lied, which ofcourse its a sin to lie, God still had mercy on Abram and purnished the household of Pharaoh for trying to take Sarai as wife even though they didn't know she was already married to Abram. Well they both were sent out from that land after this. May God always have mercy on us. We will consider what happened next in our next lesson.

Thanks so much for reading...
Till I come your way next time...
