So Great Faith

Good day family. Lets look into what happened in Genesis chapter twenty two about how God tempted Abraham. God told Abraham to take his son, Isaac and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which He will tell Him. So Abraham set up and got ready, saddled his ass, that is, donkey or camel and also took two young men with him with Isaac and took some wood too for burnt offering.

They journey for up to three days and then on the third day Abraham saw the place God had prepared for him to go. Before they mived close there, Abraham told the young men to wait for him together with the ass that he and his son wants to go to worship and that they will be back.

22:6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

If you were the son with him, what would you have done seeing all that Abraham was preparing and there was no animal with him? Will you be scared or anxious? Lets see what Isaac did.

22:7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Abraham was ofcourse known as the father of faith who believed solely in God. He must have thought or known for sure that God will not allow him to slaughter his beloved son whom it took many years to be born. Or maybe he must have thought that even if God takes this one, He will have another better plan for him. How many people can boast of such faith in this time and in our generation? Note that this is the kind of fauth God expects from each and every one of us.

Now when they got to the place, Abraham built the altar and laid the wood and guess what, he actually bound his son, Isaac and laid on the wood.to be prepared for sacrifice. Wow who would have thought? As Abraham stretched forth and took the knife ready to slay or kill his son as sacrifice, the angel of the Lord immediately called him from heaven. Abraham! Abraham!! and Abraham replied "Here am I" He must have been so sure that the aangel of God was gping to call him before he would kill his son.

22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

God of wonders, see what He did there. After this saying, Abraham looked up and saw a ram behind him whom God had prepared for the sacrifice and so Abraham took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of Isaac his son and Abraham named that place Jehovahjireh because that is the mount of the LORD.
