THE SKILLFUL MAN SENT BY GOD AND ENDOWED WITH UNDERSTANDING.

Few artists pull off fame in their lifetime; most irrespective adroitness whittle away in obscurity forever. Others achieve posthumous recognition when art dealers chance upon their works long after their demise. However, this particular artist reached to a prominence spanning the reign of three kings and across national boundaries. That is why I call him an artist without borders. Huram was a builder in the employ of the king of Tyre.

The king of Tyre described Huram as “a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram my master craftsman”. It was Huram the king of Tyre sent to go to build for Solomon, the reigning king of Israel, because of the warm friendship that had flourished between the king of Tyre and David, Solomon’s father.

And now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram my master craftsman (the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre), skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple and blue, fine linen and crimson, and to make any engraving and to accomplish any plan which may be given to him, with your skillful men and with the skillful men of my lord David your father. 2 Chronicles 2:13, 14 (NKJV)

Think for a moment about the tedium of fostering an enduring reputation. Necessarily, you would have to be so proficient that what you do is praise-worthy and emulation-worthy. These are the ingredients to fostering solid reputation. Huram’s works were praise-worthy and emulation-worthy. Huram was so good, his reputation preceded him to the foreign royal courts. His deft acclaim drew the attention of even monarchs as he garnered international renown.

The king of another country-the wisest in his generation and one of the most aesthetically discerning-had to have the superb services of this wonderful workman. King Solomon wished not only to collect, but also to commission the works of Huram after that his reputation came before the royal court. Huram’s work must have made the artists and craftsmen in Judah appear like rank amateurs!

Obviously, the fellow must have known his onions. The king went after a laudable craftsman not minding he practiced in a foreign land. Huram’s creativity and his exquisite outputs defied geographical boundaries.

King Solomon simply sent for Huram and he was fetched.

In my mind’s eye, I can see the King Solomon’s emissaries riding impeccably groomed stallions from the king’s stables, galloping toward Tyre, in search of Huram. They may not have known Huram’s address prior to the visit. But this may not have been necessary. Because Huram must have been a celebrity, the much-admired neighbor whose creations were the talk of town. As a leading light of the Tyre society, Huram’s address would have been one of the most popular. Even if those from whom the emissaries made inquiries did not know the precise location, once the king’s insignia is sighted they would have excavated Tyre to find Huram
.

If a foreign Head of State sent word requiring your services overseas, he would contact the ambassador of your homeland resident in his country. The ambassador would in turn brief his own boss as to the exact nature of the request. Thereafter, the Internal Affairs Ministry in liaison with the Security Services would take over. The officers would not leave any stone un-turned just to locate you. Travel documents such as visas and the like which ordinary travelers cross hurdles to obtain would prove no impediment to you. Language barrier would be immaterial because of your lingua franca of astonishing talent. Customs and immigration would clear whatever tools you require with dispatch if only you were sent to be fetched by a king.

Are you faltering about your gifts and potential? Are you yet to reach such standards that can qualify your entrance into the international marketplace? If this is the case, I have a challenge for you. All right, here it is: RAISE YOUR COMPETITIVE BAR. Go ahead and raise your standards. Because your outputs must reach beyond the borders of your community, town, state and country.

This is the worst possible time to be tentative. The global marketplace demands only the most qualitative. Because the customers out there are not only finicky their nit picking is merciless. They are as keen as they are fickle. So, they search with eagle eyes for aesthetic details, with scathing tongues ready to give cutting criticism. If your productions do not become impeccably bold and assertive, the king would not send for you to be fetched!

My prayer is that your productions, because of superior expertise, should come to the attention of sovereigns. Geography cannot diminish the weight of fecund imagination and world-class creativity. Whenever either explodes, reputation leaps over vast distances as though taking a walking step. Certainly, the world and its elite would perceive your glowing combustion at every intersection of longitude and latitude, if you perform!

KINGS AND QUEENS SHALL DEMAND YOUR SERVICES, BECAUSE OF THE VIRTUOSITY OF YOUR OUTPUTS.

Now King Solomon sent and fetched Huram out of Tyre…… And he came to King Solomon, and wrought all his work. 1Kings 7:13,14 (NKJV)

Emulate Huram the artist without borders who offered a one-in-town line of products. Huram lived way out of town, but when a foreign king required his services, distance was no impediment. Emulate Huram’s affinity for perfection in order that the king of another country to send men to fetch you!

Now the Gifter of every craftsman stands at the door, knocking. Open up at once, because you are to be fetched! Are you ready?
