On Thin Ice
Howdy folks!
It's been a while since my last post. I have been rather busy working on the resolutions I listed on my previous post.
In the meanwhile I'd like to share with you a few tests I did with the Ricoh Theta Z1 being rotated with an Edelkrone One Pan/Tilt combo in 60 second exposures. I used a variety of lights on my desk: UV light and fluorescent materials, several cold cathodes and COB LEDs. On the floor I placed a stip of tiny LEDs and electroluminescent wire on a rotating mount.
I'm loving the resolution bump on this camera and also aperture control which is a first in a 360 camera. I'm also looking forward to use a third party plugin to automate the creation of EXR HDRs ready to be used in any VFX scene.
The Edelkrone One is amazingly accurate, smooth and versatile but there are still a few gripes with the app that I hope they will fix in future updates.

Simply amazing!!
Thank you :)
OMG...Soooooooooooooooo prettyyyyyyyyy..........😮😃
Any chance of a how you did it vid or some stills of the set up/process cause you written description just went in one ear (eye) and out the other...
Thanks. Haha. Fair enough. I did make a video of it but thought it was too dark to post. But since you ask here's a little GIF of one of these shots being made. The camera rotates on two axis (barely visible in the dark) and some lights also rotate while other lights are stationary.
Ohhhh now I see!
What a great set up!
And the rotating light rig almost looks like a rooster! 🤣
Thanks so much for sharing and now I will def keep an eye on your work as not only am I in love with the colours and the natural designs, but also love the tech aspect of it too!

Wow, those pictures are amazing! I'd love to know how the setting looks like..
I really like this 'style' of lightpainting, not just for the type of results, but also for the fun of it in creating the 'rigs' ... as much work as it is it can be 'fun' if you're doing it for the right reasons.
BTW, I saw your Timelapse zone community a while back, to which I'm hoping to contribute to as well... I've got tons of timelapses from past couple years... Need to do something with them. One other thing, I'm guessing the 'main' idea behind the edelkrone was timelapse or lightpainting when you decided on the kit? I'm always awed by the Ron Fricke style motion-control timelapses, but a slider could definitely be cool for lightpaiting(as evidenced here) not just for camera motion but for moving lights, tubes etc around... Coolest thing would be to have a full-fledged robotic arm (basically like The Marmalade's SPIKE) but that's getting a bit carried away... for now I guess I should still work on the hand-waving lightpainting technique but the sky really is the limit 😅
oh my.. I missed this post from way back. Sorry about that. Yes I bought the Edelkrone kit with LP in mind, but obviously also with the intention of doing timelapses. It's just that I still haven't gotten round to doing any with it. Other things keep getting priority in my todo list. but it will happen one of these days.
I missed your reply too just until now haha. Well no problems I know how it goes. I'm sure it'll be amazing when it happens 😀
