Very deep and thoughtful topics to treat. And honestly, I can't wait to read our different opinions about it.

1. I remember one of those Sundays school I attended while I was still growing up and we were told there's nothing like half-truth and white lie 🤥. A lie is a lie, and the truth is the truth, a lot of argument was up then, some were like you can decide to not say the truth and at the same time not tell a lie.... We humans sha 😂😂

So, now about telling the truth even when it hurts, I believe some truths must be told. The truth even though it hurts at times as proven to save people from some deep pains they could have fallen into if they were left unsaid. I knew something about a young lady some few years ago, and I couldn't just bring myself to tell her husband about it, they were newly married and I cant be the one to destroy the home. Even though I kept quiet about it till now, something inside of me Keeps telling me i should have just let the man know, my way of approach should just be very calm and matured, just that I don't know how he will take it on his end too. The man really deserves to know, such a caring and lovely guy he is, but then I couldn't bring myself to talk.

1. For this, I as well agree that some truths are better left unsaid. Yea, when we do our calculations and go back and forth in our thoughts and it's very obvious that such truths if said can destroy, damage, and mar a person, business or a relationship then its best to just keep silent.

While in school, there's this woman that sells provision and stuffs, her husband works in another state, so he's rarely around. But each time the man comes, he do get things for us, we joke, play whit and ludo and the likes, he's a free person, not the type that you know... At times we sit the whole day with her wife in shop and he's less concerned, that's the level of trust he has in her, but we knew this woman is cheating. Most of us knew. I never talked to her about it though, and nobody said anything to her husband, even if nothing happens to the marriage, with how much the man loves his wife, he might develop heart attack or something on that spot if he knows.

In short, this woman herself later ended things with the guy, they didn't fight, but she just thought about it and she knew her man does not deserve that which she's doing. I'm not saying silence will always bring peace, and if it does it won't last, the best thing a person can do is to change from their wrong ways. If you say the truth about something, apologize for it, if you're forgiven, then don't go back into that thing again.

Honesty or Harmony: It Depends on What You’re Protecting

I don’t think “always tell the truth” or “always stay silent” works as a rule. The better question is: what is the truth for, and what is the silence protecting?

There are truths that should be said even if they damage a relationship. If someone is being hurt, deceived, or set up to fail, silence isn’t preserving harmony. It’s preserving a lie. In those cases, telling the truth is the only way to make a real relationship possible later. A relationship built on avoidance isn’t a relationship. It’s mutual performance. It collapses the moment reality intrudes. I’ve seen friendships end after a hard conversation, and both people later say it was the first honest thing they’d done in years. The short-term damage was real, but the alternative was a slow decay of trust.

But not every truth needs to be said, and not every moment needs to be the moment. Some facts are about my preferences, old grudges, or judgments about someone’s character that won’t change anything except their mood. Saying those out loud often creates resentment without creating clarity. That’s not harmony. That’s just avoiding conflict by creating new conflict.

When I do tell a truth that I know will hurt, I try to handle the consequences in three ways. First, I separate the fact from my judgment of the person. “You missed the deadline” is different from “You’re unreliable.” Second, I take responsibility for my part and state what I need going forward, not just what went wrong. Third, I accept that the other person gets to react badly. Truth doesn’t guarantee a good reception. If I speak to control their reaction, I’m not being honest. I’m negotiating.

When I choose silence, I check my motive. Am I quiet to protect them, or to protect myself from discomfort? If it’s the second, I’m usually avoiding something I should face. Lasting peace doesn’t come from avoidance. It comes from trust that hard things can be said and survived.

So my stance is: tell the truth when it prevents harm or when the relationship can’t survive without it. Stay silent when the truth is just noise. The skill is knowing the difference, and that only comes from being willing to face the fallout either way.

Hello everyone , happy weekend.
On this topic, I will say just say, I think it's better to always say the truth than to keep things away because if you do keep some things away , believe me that truth you were hiding would come back to hunt you one way or the other.
So why not just let it out and be done with, yes relationship will be threatened and all that stuff , but you see nothing beats having a clear conscience in a relationship, so what are we even saying? Why tell a lie when it night get revealed one way or the other.

Ututu oma. Good morning to all my beautiful and handsome friends.

For me, the answer is yes. I personally love honesty because I have trust issues. Once someone lies to me repeatedly, maybe two or three times, it becomes very difficult for me to believe anything that person says again. And you know, trust is like a mirror once it's broken, it can never return to the same shape. So I strongly believe truth should always be told no matter how painful or uncomfortable it may be.

I have been trying to inculcate the habit of truthfulness in the heart of my children. I want them to understand that honesty is one of the greatest value a person can have. Yes, a truthful person may make mistakes, but at least people can trust their words. You understand what I mean? So I prefer the truth anytime any day.

It's true that telling the truth may sometimes comes with consequences. It can disrupt peace, destroy relationships or even change how people see you. But I have learned that peace built on lies is never real peace. So how do I deal with the consequences that comes with truth? Well, I will first try to speak the truth with wisdom, you know at times you may be saying the truth but the manner the message in which the truth is conveyed may sound rude or disrespectful. So I will also try to be calm, calculative and to say it with love not with the intention to hurt anyone. Secondly, I will not ignore the fact that it's not everyone that will appreciate honesty immediately. Some people always get angry, some distance themselves because you told them the truth. Some with time comes to their right senses while some will choose to cling to the truth as wrong. ( It's their choice)

People misunderstand you, hate you, or even see you as an enemy just because you were truthful to them. I experienced this with a lady who always claim to be my friend. She constantly had misunderstanding with her husband, and whenever they fought, the husband would call me to help settle things. As time went on, through their many arguments and explanations, I realised that she was mostly the cause of the problems.

Out of genuine concern, I decided to call her privately without her husband's knowledge so I could advise her sincerely as a friend. To my greatest surprise, instead of appreciating the truth, she became very angry and insulted life out of me😂😂😂. She said I was advising her because I believe my own life was perfect, that I should come and marry her husband while she would marry mine. She even said that she hated me deeply. Her reaction hurt me, because I was so humble and respectful to her, but I told myself that it's not everyone is ready to accept the truth, expecially when it exposes their faults.

Did I regret telling her the truth? No. The lady husband died recently as a result of heart attach. Who is without a husband? she. Who is suffering as a result of her actions? She. Consequences of not accepting the truth may come with pain. But I would rather be hated for telling the truth than loved for supporting lie. In the end whether people accept the truth or not, the truth remains the truth.

For me, I do not believe that some truths are better left unsaid in order to protect relationships or prevent resentment between people. I believe truth should be spoken no matter how difficult it may be. I am yet to see that relationship that was truly protected just because the truth was hidden. (de play) However, I have seen many relationships destroyed because of lies and deceit.

I have noticed that when truth is left unsaid, people often end up covering one lie with another lie, and before you know it, (e go cast )the situation then becomes more complicated. In the end the damage becomes even worse than it would have been if the truth had been told from the beginning. You will agree with me that peace becomes fragile when it is achieved through silence or avoidance of the truth.

For example, there are cases where a woman may have children outside wedlock and decided to pin the paternity on her present husband. At first, the truth may seem hidden in order to protect the home or avoid conflicts, but the question is does it stay hidden for life? The answer is a capital No, the truth eventually comes out to light. Yes it brings deep pain, disunity, resentment, lack of trust and confusion into the family. What was supposed to preserve peace now destroys it completely.

In my opinion, truth may hurt for a while even for life if you choose to, but lies hurt even much. Even though speaking the truth may sometimes lead to difficult situations, but Las Las, it gives people the opportunity to heal, grow and build genuine relationships, knowing that real peace is built on honesty not lies.

Yes. Sometimes what keeps a relationship going is the secrets that have not been let out of the bag. Our past sometimes should remain in the past, especially if they weren't events that could easily be swept under the carpet.

Humans demand the truth, but most people can't handle it. Either this truth remains a memory that haunts them or something they weaponize to take advantage over the other. I've seen marriages break because one decided to come up with a truth that never found ground to heal.

Nothing is assured. Hiding the truth may or may not assure lasting peace, especially if what is hidden haunts the bearer himself. But one thing is sure: as long as the bearer isn't burdened by it, peace can be achieved if the truth remains hidden.

The past can stir up wounds that never get healed.
