Are We Out Of Control?? ..

I say No Way. We just have an appreciation for Orchids and love the year round color. The peacefulness that these plants provide, fills our living space with a sense of calmness and relaxation. So why not add to the family and keep that kind of good vibe growing? When the time came to make the decision to add or not to add to our current family of three Orchids, the decision was an easy one.. To ADD!

I Know Now That We Have 'Orchid Fever'

How Did This Happen? ..

Well, it was Saturday and my wife and I made plans to head to our local big box store for some much needed supplies, which may or may not have included toilet paper. They were out of my favorite one .. go figure, right? .. and that's okay. We loaded up on lots of paper products, laundry detergent, air popper pop-corn, candy, yada yada. I don't want to bore you to tears with the details, so I'll get to the good part. We were at the end of the coffee isle and found ourselves standing smack dab in front of a whole cart full of Orchids! The colors were AMAZING! There were so many! My head started to spin with excitement. My eyes bulging out of my skull. My arms slowly began to rise and before I knew what was happening, I had one in my grasp. It's beauty was mesmerizing. I almost began to drool over the pink wonder in my hands.. Okay, maybe saying I was drooling is going a little overboard (and disgusting).. It was probably just tears of joy streaming down my face. Hehehe.

No Support In Sight! ..

My wife and I go to the store together to keep each other out of trouble. Where was she today, during this moment of weakness?? Well, she was right in the thick of it too! She was NOT a good influence to what was happening. She encouraged the purchase and even said that we should buy a few more! CRAZY I tell ya. So, that's what we did. In the end, we ended up placing three of them into our cart. Trust me, if I had my way I would of taken them all. Technically two of them came in one box as a two for one, so I could count that as one. Miniature orchids, in miniature pots and placed into a miniature box. So stinking cute.. like a puppy dog, we just couldn't say no to that. We wanted more, but had to drawl a line.. for now at least.

So Let's Meet The New Orchids ..

First up are the miniature plants, and of course Molly was there to take part in a photobomb opportunity. She was so excited to meet them.. NOT .. and even brought her little dino baby over for the meet and greet. I am pretty certain she assumed they could be food for her belly or maybe she saw those two huge containers of animal cracker treats we carried in. Either way she was present and interested in the big reveal. Well, it is your lucky day Molly, Meet your new sisters!!! No clue where Pepper is, but I'll get a picture of him in here, somewhere.

"Easy Care Plants, Fresh From The Greenhouse"!

They had some other colors there, yellows and oranges, but we settled on the purple and white one. We chose these simply because we don't have these colors in our collection, now totaling six. They appeared quite healthy and quite happy. I think they'll need re-potted soon, but that will be a project for another day down the road. For now all they needed was a miniature amount of room on the ledge and a miniature sip of water. Okay, okay.. I'm done with all the 'Miniature' talk. Stop smirking like I know you are. hahahaha.

Welcome Miss Purple ..

The blooms are just GORGEOUS! They appeared to have opened recently, so hope they hang on for a few more weeks, maybe longer.

Welcome To The Party Miss White ..

This plant is full of beautiful blooms as well. There are actually a ton of them crammed onto those small stems. Definitely a happy little Orchid if I ever saw one.

Moving On ..

Now I would like to introduce you to the third Orchid we brought back home today. My wife will correct me later if I am wrong about the color of this one.. But I am going to call it pink, or at least a shade similar to pink. Whatever the exact color of these blooms is, We LOVE it! Again, we chose this girl for her unique color and the fact we have nothing like it. This Orchid is much taller than the rest and not.. dare I say it one more time.. Miniature. It has a lot of eaves and also appears to be very happy and healthy. Lets hope moving it from its comfort under grow lights at the store, won't be too big of a shock for it.

So There You Have It ..

Our three new Orchids, bringing our total now to six. I know it's not a lot, but sooner or later I am sure we will accumulate more. There is still a bit of room on the 'Orchid Wall' They seem to do very well on this wall by the bright sun, but not directly in it. We have had good blooming success in this particular location.

I eventually moved them away from the end of the walls ledge, more toward the door.

You can see the two of the other Orchids, not in bloom, sitting next to them. The one, our original first Orchid, was recently re-potted and is doing much better than it had been. I feel like it was on it's death bed. After a good trimming and re-potting, she came back to life. The plant is putting out a new leaf and roots. I will take that as a good sign that a full recovery may be in it's future.

The one next to that has been growing a bloom stem for a few months now. It's getting pretty long as it's stretching toward the sun's light. I forgot to stake it up and clip it to a post. Whoops. I'm just going to let it alone for now. Knowing me, I'll break it by forcing it toward a post and it will snap! That would suck.

I was thinking about cutting the old bloom stem off, but then noticed a few small buds at the tips of the old stems. I think I'll leave them alone and see what happens. Maybe we'll get a few more blooms from them.. not sure.

To round out this lengthy post, I obviously can't leave out the last Orchid we bought (before the three today of course). It is still blooming since I brought it home from the grocery store at the beginning of March. Almost 5 months!! That's really cool. I love how Loooonnnggg these plants bloom for. It's sort of amazing to me how they can do that.

It's happiest on the wall with the others, but I was looking for a colorful centerpiece for our breakfast table, and this one fit the bill. It hasn't complained about the move.. not that I talk or listen to my houseplants or anything. No no no, not me. You have to admit, like the dogs, they are pretty good at keeping all of my secrets safe. haha. They never talk back! or Bark.

I am getting sleepy and Monday, along with work, will come soon enough. So I am off to bed to dream about adding to our family of Orchids. I can dream can't I??
