A typical Venezuelan breakfast is often made up of arepas, "perico" and white venezuelan cheese.

The perico is the perfect companion for our delicious arepas, it is not known for sure why they called it that, the translation of "Perico" in English is "Parrot" and it is presumed that they gave this name to these rich scrambled eggs because of the colouring that the tomato brings.

Today I want to show you a little bit of Venezuelan gastronomy and I start with this simple dish that is very delicious, three simple ingredients: Egg, Tomato and Onion, which are beneficial to our diet:

Eggs are rich in several nutrients that promote heart health, such as betaine and choline. Source

Tomatoes. Tomatoes are best known for their vitamin content which includes beta-carotene (which becomes vitamin A when consumed), vitamins C and E, some B vitamins and vitamin K. They also contribute some minerals including calcium and magnesium..Source

Onions. Contain natural sugar, vitamins A, B6, C and E, minerals such as sodium, potassium, iron and dietary fibre.Source

Ingredients

1 egg
1 tomato
Half an onion
Oil
Salt

Instructions
  • Grate the tomato, usually people cut it into squares but I like to grate it. Cut the onion into squares.

  • Beat the egg a little with a fork.

  • Fry the onion and tomato.
