A Letter to God | Hive Creative Contest

This is my late entry to @zord189's #HiveCreativeContest. You can see the details here.

Dear Christian God,

I am writing to you on behalf of millions of people who are too afraid to speak up. I am writing to ask for an explanation: Why is it that you refuse to use all your infinite power to do good, prevent and/or punish evil, and clarify any doubts about your very existence?

I am writing to you because, according to the scriptures you dictated to your messengers, you rule over all other gods, so, I’m not going to waste time complaining to middlemen, or should I say middlegods? I want to believe that, like many messengers, yours got it wrong and fixed on paper a misconstrued image of you, according to which you are either too human, and therefore driven by human passions and emotions, or too detached and oblivious to human affairs.

Source

I just want to state something that you, as an almighty being, obviously understand, but still minimize under the assumption that parents know better. Your methods do not work. There is either something wrong with your creation, that would explain the treacherous and erratic ways of your chosen people, as described in painstaking detail in your scriptures, or with your methods, as evidenced by your keeping your chosen people for centuries under oppression and then expecting them to be totally faithful and trustworthy.

Allowing people to suffer indefinitely under the expectation that sooner or later (most likely later) they’ll be blessed with your divine intervention is not going to make them love you more than planktons can love a whale. Humans need to see a little bit more of consistency. Having infinite power and refusing to use it for a better good makes you look either weak or despotic.

Source

We all know the stories of your mighty deeds. There is absolutely nothing you cannot do, from creating things out of nothing to destroying everything; from dealing directly with your creations to dealing with them through your son, to apparently not dealing with them at all. With your power of persuasion alone, as evidenced in your dealing with Pharaoh (making him change his mind several times about freeing the Jews so that you could brag about all your destructive pests), we would not need anything else. There are still good people, thank you very much, but there are still plenty of bad ones who are ruining everything for you and for us all. Just getting inside their heads as you did to Pharaoh and persuading them not to commit crimes or injustices of any kinds would be great. Of course, if you want to get more followers, you could use some of your old methods, only more consistently. Let those who misuse their free will screw up and punish them beyond their dues on the spot. I will give humanity a week to keep trying your patience and your power.

Evangelization takes too long and is too expensive and inefficient. People end up joining churches out of despair, not of conviction. I know you can do better; that will surely make us better.

Sincerely yours,

You-know-who

God's too high up, the Tsar's too far away...

We have a wolf-in-the-pan situation. What do we do?

Quite a dilemma, right? Those in a possition of power understood that one has to do what one has to do. They have acted, knowing fully well that either god or the tsar will be too busy/far to care or intervene. Those who get trampled are the ones waiting for divine intervention of some sort and are afraid to do what is right lest the fury of god will fall upon them.
In Veneuela a great majority of people refuse to take action against the bad guys because they "leave it to god to punish the wicked", "every evil deed is paid for here on earth", they say. Most evil doers die peacefully, though, indebted to millions. Even if they die early and even tragically, that does not compensate in most cases the damage they caused. That being said, I'd take the latter over any peaceful divine resolution.

I'm not sure the world has even been or will ever be at ease. Maybe if that were an accepted fact without the promise of paradise,as long as everybody follows a certain path, that would encourage people to be more proactive.
So many people believing that god does not act because we are being punished by our or someone else's tresspassing. The thing is it is impossible for everybody to behave at the same time. There will always be someone breaking some commandment, therefore there will always be an excuse for the delay in devine intervention.
Way too many people leaving things into god's hands. He will provide, they say; or his timing is perfect, what happens is what must happen. I am not too sure about that.

Oh my, @hlezama, this is such a powerful letter. I think so many have these questions. Really, Dear God, could you not use your powers at this very minute to bring peace to those who are suffering from war, and health and well-being to those who struggle in poverty? What are you waiting for??

I know we are to believe that God has reasons for everything, but when people are sick, hurt, suffering, dealing with political strife, fires, famine and war, and children are dying, it is very very hard to hold faith that He is watching over us and holds us in the palm of His hands.

Thanks, @jayna
Hope you've been doing well.
It's a very frustrating thing this believing business.
