π² Surinaamse Monopoly π© A Game For Suriname & Learning Dutch π
There are very few "Suriname" products due to Suriname being a small population country. However, when we saw a Suriname version of Monopoly in a local clothing store, we had to buy it.
SUCCESSFUL SURINAME SCORE π
Β Β Β Long before COVID-19 and the collapse of public transportation in Suriname, we used to go downtown once a month to wander around aimlessly and buy an odd item or two for the @KidSisters, although usually clothing.
Β Β Β When we found a clothing store with a games section, we began picking through all the random cheap imported Chinese games to find a Suriname version of Monopoly.
Β Β Β We quickly headed home to learn some new Dutch words and see if this boardgame would turn us into "dodelijke vijanden" as it does to most families.
THE BOX π¦
Β Β Β We were able to learn the Dutch word "kans" before we arrived home as it's printed on the front cover. I guess we took a "kans" in buying this game, not knowing what to expect inside.
π΄ INSIDE π΅
Β Β Β I didn't expect high quality parts inside as the box says it's "made in China", but was surprised to see some non-plastic tokens and a decent board.
Β Β Β I began explaining to the anxious @KidSisters that this game is like no other. A standard Monopoly game can end in someone's night being ruined, and who knows what tension Surinaamse Monopoly game might provoke.
π© THE BOARD π²
Β Β Β The gameboard contained a lot of already familiar streets. Suriname has no railroad, so I thought that was a funny thing to keep. I think bus lines would've been an appropriate replacement.
π€¬ LET THE HATE COMMENCEπ‘
Β Β Β As Monopoly generally starts off peacefully, I snapped an early pic while both parties had houses, hotels cash and good spirits.
Β Β Β This photo is after I told Monkey-B her Monopoly future didn't look too promising. SreyYuu is obviously not bothered by this knowledge.
Β Β Β We've had "Surinaamse Monopoly" for quite a while, and we still play it on occasion, but only when everyone is feeling tough as nails.
I like to play it but this is game spent time very long to play it, I feel tired.
You took the words out of my mouth.
How true... particularly when you have a brother that steals from the bank when no one else is looking. π€
Her facial expression is priceless. Aahhahaha! π
I grew up with a Monopoly money thief in my house too. Is there a Portuguese version which is seafood-themed?
No, just the generic version.
This made me smile a lot :<)
Nice to see you've got the version with metal pawns, my parents have that one too.
I played this game quite some times as a kid ( although it often takes hours so probably a couple of dozen times only ) and it's very interesting.
I have an English version here, in my house in Portugal ( as depicted below ). I chose it as a piece of inheritance from / memory to my grandmother, who passed away in 2018. She lived in London till the mid to late 1970s, so it must be half a century old.
I recently played the Dutch game at a good friend's house, with his wife and him and I won ( probably due to my crypto money skills - would be fun to see a crypto version one day but what country should it represent? blockchainland? ). These days were old enough not to become 'dodelijke vijanden'.
I think these days I don't mind losing that much but it still felt good to win haha.
I wish you and your family an abundance of virtual money, the crypto kind that is.
Big hug,
Vincent
Give thanks my man, beautiful old board there with some history and character. I wonder what "Boardwalk" would be in the crypto version?
