ROCK N BOLD by Lavi Picu

RockNBold is my latest acrylic work, the newest addition to my musical instruments series. Since singing or playing an instrument was not in the cards for me, this is the closest I could ever get to making music.

After I primed my canvas, I created some texture on it, by pressing wooden shapes into the wet Gesso, using the wedges and even my fingers to spread the Gesso and make random patterns.

For this painting I wanted to have a different guitar. My initial ideas were to draw and paint a famous rock electric guitar or maybe even Prince`s famous blue guitar. After surfing the net and looking at various models, I settled for the acoustic model.

Because I had skipped drawing with a pencil my sketch on the canvas and actually verifying the real dimensions of this instrument, my guitar was a bit off and it had to be reshaped.

As for the piano, I wanted to have another type of piano, not the flowing keyboard that I had in my other paintings from this series. That`s how I ended up having a B&W brick-like piano keyboard. Or maybe lighthouse keyboard, as my son calls it, given its size and colours.
After a few layers of paint, it actually started to shape out nicely. Even with a missing neck, my electric guitar looked better.

Given that it was part of a series, I used the same colours but this time, I made the guitar red and the background yellow and blue.

Here are some details of the texture:

At this point I thought it was finished but something was still missing. I put it away for a day and then I knew what I had to do.

Small details make a difference. Notice how the right top part of the painting looked a bit plain in the photo above? Now check the first photo of this post to see what changed!

What do you think of my painting? I would like to hear your thoughts on it! Is this something you`d hang on your walls? This one is for sale, so if you are interested, let me know!

Thank you, Gabriela! It started as pain management therapy for my Lyme disease and it turned into a passion.

Ooh, nice! That'd be awesome hanging on a musicians wall. I do like the final touch with the added colour splotches; it really does give some visual balance to the final piece.

Like you, it seems, my own musical prowess is limited to playing the radio. I do love music though! It's a mainstay in my daily life.

This is a really cool looking piece. Yes you added more green squares to the top right, very cool. As you mentioned small details, for future reference, when doing the black and whites, you may want to drop in double whites. It would go W-B-W-B-W-W-B-W-B-W-B-W repeat ;)

You are absolutely right about the double whites. You can tell I never played the piano. Thanks!
