MyPictureDay A Beautiful Sublime Sunday Bursting with Blooms...
It is a sublime Sunday roaming the hills and discovering new wild flowers in bloom! We have had a lot of cloudy days but I'm not complaining for it makes for some awesome skies and good lighting for taking close up of the wildflowers! I'm taking a series of shots of the succession of blooms around my home in the Boreal forest of Saskatchewan to put into a photo book available in the late fall after the last of the blooms have been taken by the heavy frosts.
Come along with me and see what I found...
Up on the hilltop is where we get our weather report for we can see the horizon in all directions, notice any clouds coming in and are open to the wind.
When we first got to the top of the hill there was a nice formation of clouds in the North -

Then looking over to the West the clouds were starting to build...

Over in the South they were really building and we figured we better get home before we got rained on.

I was glad I had taken my shots before the rains for there were an abundance of new blooms out after all the wet weather we had been having.
The bright sow thistle were adding their brilliant yellow to the landscape.

The wild woodland roses were starting to set their rose hips but the bushes tucked into the shady areas were still in full bloom with new buds coming on.

All the rains we have been having have bought even more tiger lilies adding their brilliant orange to the display of wildflowers

There was lots of heuchera blooms in among the tiger lilies.

Another plant that was just beginning to bloom was the hyssop - one of the favorites of the bees.

And the delicate harebells were increasing in number adding their lovely blue among the grasses.

Beside the harebells there were some yarrow growing which for some reason attracted the flies.

Red clover had begun to burst open. I like to harvest some of those for my teas. They make a lovely combination with raspberry leaves and rose hips.

I found another patch of lungwort that was still in bloom adding blue, with a slight touch of pink, to the green understory of the bush!

And there were more and more bedstraw blooms showing up. They were quite plentiful and had a rather sweet smell so I could see why they would want to use them for stuffing mattresses but it would take a lot of plants for making a mattress, maybe a pillow or a combination of plants.

Also with all these blooms there were lots of bugs which made for some interesting photos.

The photos were taken with my Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
The heart on the bug was cool! As always, amazed at lungwort flowering with yarrow! Loved the colors of blue and green in the first couple photos. Really nice collection!
Thank-you!Glad you enjoyed them!
We had such a late spring this year and it effects the successions of growth. The weirdest thing was one cottonwood tree just shedding it's fluff the first part of July that is suppose to be a Spring thing!
How is your Summer progressing?
Very hot, extremely humid, can only work outside in the early mornings. We broke down and put the little AC in the living room. My husband's from Florida and even he can't take this! (We are in Western Mass.)
H-m-m! You are getting chased inside by the humidity and heat and I'm getting chased in by the swarms of mosquitoes with all our moisture! Glad we both have comfortable homes!
For some reason, knock wood, we don't have zillions of mosquitoes this year. With the swamp 30' away, we usually do!
Lucky you! It must be the heat keeping the mosquitoes away or have you had a lot of dragonflies eating them?
Not seen many dragonflies, and go to bed too early to see how many bats we have. But for some reason, they haven't bothered us so far this year, knock wood...
