Wednesday Walk - Frost Has Hit Bringing On Signs of Fall

We had a killing frost the other day which put a halt to much of the growing season. It also bought on the change to the Fall colors in the trees and bushes.

The night before we had some rain then the temperature began to drop freezing rain drops on the colorful Mountain ash leaf.

I had a lemon tree which I put outside for the winter and it really got frosted giving it a fuzzy appearance.

Heading down the road for our walk we noticed the red, orange and yellows beginning to appear in the bushes along the way.

There was even some leaves starting to fall giving some crunch when walking the trail.

The temperature was cooler so Bruno liked running around a little more and it was lovely after the frost to not have mosquitoes any more!

Closer to home Bruno went leaping through the forest chasing a squirrel

The squirrels have been busy getting ready for winter making their stashes of food.

Below you can see where a squirrel had been busy chewing on pine cones leaving a pile of chips on an old stump.

In the neighbor's pasture his young horse came to greet me. She has grown to be such a friendly horse. She came for some scratches while her older sister and mother lay among the grasses and what looked like the browning fireweed.

In another field the other neighbor's horse peered at us through the bushes.

Frost already! It looks like some areas down here will get frost this weekend. It's supposed to be in the 30's. Traditionally, I got my first frost the 3rd week of September, and we are there!

The killing frost hit right on the expected frost date of September the 7th!
We had a cold spell and now it is warming up again for one last blast of summer!
It's always disappointing to get the3 killing frosts that ends the growing season killing so much that was in it's prime then you get the warm spell which could have given us so much more growth and production is plants hadn't dies off - alas that is life in Zone 2!
Funny how it seems so early but it is right on with the expected frost dates! Do you cover a lot of stuff to extend your season?

Some years I do, but I doubt I will this year. I have to be done by October 15th due to an obligation, so am working hard towards that goal.

Sometimes it is good to have a deadline, seems you get more done!
I dig out a lot of stuff and bring it indoors to grow for the winter which is lovely to have the fresh produce but means I don't take that break from gardening.

Great #WednesdayWalk @porters. You have absolutely beautiful surroundings, but I got cold just reading this post and looking at the pictures. I will safely enjoy the changing of the seasons up north from here in Suriname, thanks to you, of course.
