Clouds & Spires

A few years ago, I happened to be in the downtown area of Greenville, SC (US) to meet someone. I wasn't able to find a parking space on the street, so I went onto the parking deck atop the local Transit Authority hub. From the level of that deck, I saw a lovely view of church spires, trees with blossoms on them, and some amazing clouds overhead.

With some creative processing on the shot, I arrived at this image which I really like because it somewhat casts the ominous-appearance of the clouds onto the entire scene below them:

To arrive at that shot, above, I began with the original shot, below. Besides that one cloud in the middle of the shot, a dark cloud can be seen at the top of the shot, and plenty more darker clouds coming from the behind those trees.

The shot was first processed with the pastel filter in my PaintShopPro™ software and I got the following rather surreal result. To achieve the final edit, I blended the two layers together and darkened the opacity.

We're still on partial lockdown in this area due to the whole COVID-19 event, so that was part of the reason for digging this out of my archives and letting it see the light-of-day. Plus, I hate seeing all the shots I've made over the years just wasting away, the poor things... 😂

Hope you enjoyed seeing the beauty of this springtime scene!

Almost has the Currier and Ives type look, I liked the shots they would use for calendars when I was growing up.
