OLD BARN № 073

This barn was photographed none-too-soon. When I made the photo, I thought to myself that this barn would not be standing much longer as it appeared to be leaning and ready to topple any moment. Sure enough, it was completely gone within a year of this shot. In fact, I had trouble remembering exactly where in the quarter-mile stretch of possibilities it had actually sat. But, I finally remembered where it had been and all the debris had definitely been cleared.

This poor structure has been through so much from the elements over the years that it is almost difficult to perceive all the nuances of the building in its former glory. There is definitely a now-lopsided hay door and a hay loft on the upper level, but some of the other details are uncertain. It looks like there may have been a drive bay in the right-hand side, for bringing equipment and/or livestock into the barn. Beyond that, one can only guess. Perhaps someone with sharper eyes or more experience with barns can make further assessments.

This barn was located on Anthony Road, just off Rhymes Lane, in the same area of Pickens County, SC, as many of the other barns that have appeared in my blog recently. Those are indicated by the numbers in the aerial view, below, while barns yet to be featured are marked with white dots.

Some readers have stated they prefer the original shots to my artistic process. And, granted, some of the subtle details are lost in the processing.
