ENGLISH

The chest

Graciela was waiting, hiding in the garden. She stood quietly in the bushes waiting for her mother; "There is a secret opening at the bottom", she revealed to her the night before, while she was in a sleepy state.

Graciela took it as a firm adventure, a mystery emanating from around a chest, which her mother hides in that opening. The girl waited until the evening sunset, when finally her mother appeared.

She was holding the small chest, a relic made of wood and copper. Graciela's mother went inside the doorway and after a few minutes came out without the chest. An ephemeral opportunity, the girl took it to discover the truth.

Inside the opening, she saw the chest on a pedestal. She opened it subtly and in horror found something throbbing. Fleshy and ovoid, like a heart. Then to one side she found a picture, a very old one, perhaps more than a decade old. In it was a handsome man, with light eyes like hers.

Graciela fled in fear from the opening, her mother unexpectedly found it and took it: "Her heart is still beating, only her temples are missing", her mother said with her eyes wide open.

Author's note

The story that I come to present to you is a story that I imagined some time ago and that I have always wanted to make concrete. I have always liked unexpected endings with disturbing events. I have a fascination for shocking things, that is why I made my attempt to create an atmosphere full of mystery with an unusual discovery.

The elements that I used for the creation of this micro story were intrigue, melancholy and obsession. I left out several things since it was a limit of words that I imposed on myself. I leave its development and later its ending to the reader's mercy.
