Standing Up

I've been the work from home type for about the past five years, well before the pandemic started. There is a small part of my basement converted into a makeshift office with "temporary" walls and such. It looks remarkably like this:

Simple, straightforward, to the point. It's a desk, and there's nothing too fancy about that.

Now, when I was in an office, I had a desk that be raised or lowered into a standing or sitting desk. Honestly, I've found that I missed that.

When the weather is nice, I enjoy getting outside for a lunchtime bikeride. The weather hasn't been nice, so I haven't been doing that, and the result has been that I've been sitting All Day Long. It happens every winter, and when spring finally rolls around I'm feeling sluggish and tired.

So I've decided to fix that, and ordered a portable standing desk attachment for the desk. It's really a neat little creature.

Despite that it was shipped in a box, I do not have any 'unboxing' pictures. I do have pictures of the end result, however:

It's a nice contraption with a gas loaded mount to raise or lower the desk. I had once tried using boxes to make a poor mans standing desk and, though it worked, it was a nuisance when I wanted or needed to sit again.

So, why a standing desk? Honestly, it's not for weight loss; studies show that there isn't really any extra energy-consumption in standing vs sitting (a person needs to actually be moving to experience energy use):

Rather, my goal is to feel more awake and alert during the day (sitting makes me groggy) which will (hopefully) carry over into giving me some more momentum to resume bike riding.

Has anyone else used a standing desk before? Any thoughts on that?

Haha, thanks. That was originally intended to be a shoe holder to hang on the back of a closet door, but I definitely don't have that many shoes.

I love my standing desk back at the office. But I haven't worked there for a year! I set up my home office so I could stand, but it has a hard wood floor and my feet got so sore. Like you, I was using books and boxes and things to set it up so I could stand, but also like you I struggled too much with conversion every time I wanted to sit down.

My husband was supposed to set it up so I could convert from one to another, as my Christmas present. Thank you for reminding me! I'm going to tell that slacker to get on it!

Hee! Yes, get that slacker to work! 😂 I've recently come across a coffee table that does something similar. Seriously, I don't know why every horizontal piece of furniture doesn't have this feature anymore!
