MY STEEM STORY

A Power House Creatives Initiative

Everyone has a story – and all our stories have something in common… we all started from nothing and knew nothing. People want to hear stories. They want to hear OUR stories — they want to know who we are, where we are from, what we are doing, who and what we love, what we have learnt and where we are going. People also want us to hear their story! Being a part of the Steem network is an individual journey for every single one of us and through this initiative we will share our stories not only with all who are already here – hopefully inspiring, guiding and informing them… but doing the same for everyone else in the world too. Through our stories we will prick the curiosity of those who have not yet arrived and illuminate and widen the already open doors to our one in a million blockchain.

We invite and encourage each and every one of you to participate and share your stories too! You can find the "how to" details at the end of this post.

My Steem Story- By @zellypearl

Where my steem journey began

My journey on steem started on November 2018.
How exciting enough that I am already a year old on steem even though many have achieved quite a lot in the little space of time they've been here. I just can't stop being excited about the little I've got here.

Just like every other persons.
How I came to be and how I learnt about steem was not some kind of a magic neither did it drop from heaven. I was directed and guided by someone to this platform.
I learnt about steem and it was introduced to me by a great teacher and mentor to many; sir @uyobong, leader of @sc-n
I don't think I would have ever heard about such place as steem aside from when He told us about it; and by "US" i mean many other persons he brought to the platform.
He lectured me about steem and said I needed to be a part of the block chain.

He could have just closed his mouth and went ahead and do his normal business without letting a soul know about steem. But he didn't, rather he saw the need others needed to join and be a part of whatsoever was happening here. And for that, I will always remain grateful to him.

Talking about my impression and thoughts when I landed here?
This is somehow tricky.
But truth be told, at first the only thoughts i had was based on doubts.
I imagined and wondered if what was going on here was real or even making any sense.
But since I had a backbone and someone that kept urging me, telling me it was all real and that although it may not be making sense to me now but that it will in the nearest future as such I shouldn't lose hope nor look down on steem.
There after, I sumed up courage and started steeming.!

My initial challenges and how I overcame them

Oh LA LA ! Now I would say for sure.
I don't think there is any new steem user that never encountered this challenge. It seem it was the trending thing for every new steem user. Being opportuned to read through many steem user blog. I've come across similar complaints about what I'll be discussing in this header.

  • Poor Upvoting

OK! this was one of my major challenge on steem. I had little or no upvotes most times on every post I came up with.
I was told contents and good ones at that were always rewarded here.
But how disappointing it was that I would buy some time to put up an original content yet I was fighting and struggling for up votes.
I remember how I used to post and eagerly waited to be upvoted yet after like 2-5hours nothing shows forth, most times even till the next day or there after.
But you will see other top curators posting and making big up votes in less than a minutes or an hour.I didn't like it one bit that I had complained to someone and asked why it was so. And the response he gave me was that; "I wasn't engaging the system"
By so he meant, that I wasn't interacting either directly or indirectly with the people on the steem platform.
He told me I was new here as such I needed to hold up the responsibility of making an audience for myself
He said I could do so by reading through people's post and making useful comments on their post
That it was the only way I could be noticed and be followed.
And this was how I overcame my poor Upvoting challenge.
I started doing just exactly what he said, although I wasn't really consistent or really committed but the little I did, went a long way as to helping me with my spelt out challenge.

  • Content Creation

I've being talking and shouting about low or poor Upvotes but this too was a challenge I needed to overcome sooner and much later.
Coming up with good contents worthy of good up votes.
I remember struggling at first instance to put up something good and meaningful.
Since I learnt the platform was void of plagiarism, copying and pasteing.
You can agree with me that no one is an island; we all need others in one way or the other.
There's a particular content one may create that may need the saying or writing of someone else to make a greater effect or sense to people reading through it.
Though the platform discourages plagiarism and copying but it also gave room to a better way of doing so and showing reference to the original owner to avoid being downvoted and blacklisted.
This was also some kind of a challenge to me, being that naturally I don't enjoy putting up long writing or making a long post because I usually felt people might get really bored along the way having to read through long and bulky post.
I was also a victim of this, I get really tired and bored going through long and bulky post or writing as such I felt the same way for others.
And the issue of copying and plagiarism seemed to have also affected me in a way.
But I'm happy that I soon adjusted to every challenges I initially had here on steem.

My Steem blockchain Knowledge

Lol..!😂😂 I know the likes of people that will laugh so hard if they see this particular part of My steem journey.
I know I might be sounding really unserious right now but sincerely I stayed for months on steem without even knowing the basic things about steem.
How to view my wallet? How to edit and format? How to sell and exchange? How to make delegations?
Let me shock you that I didn't even know the slightest thing like the meaning of SP, SD, or even SPUD.
The only truth there is to that is because I really didn't care neither was I bothered by it. But it's kinda shameful you know? To even speak about it.
So talking about knowledge about steem.
Let me be very direct and truthful, I'm still lacking very behind on this aspect and I wouldn't lie about it.
But I believe I will get better with proper engagement. And this happen to be one of my target for 2020 steem journey.
That I will proudly mentor and tutor others about steem and give them a better direction.

Pardon me! For not doing better on this aspect. I believe with time I would do better😊🙆😇
