False Accusations – Acts 6:11
Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.”
Take note they had to get people to lie about Stephen. What’s that tell us? It tells us Stephen was an upright man. They had nothing against him. Listen to some verses that follow.
Acts 6:12-13 - So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.”
Did you notice they had to produce false witnesses? The false witnesses said, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.” Since these were false witnesses, this tells us Stephen never spoke against the holy place or against the law.
Now listen to verse 14.
For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.
That was the false accusation. Saying Stephen declared Yeshua would change the customs Moses handed down. This tells the disciples and Stephen continued teaching Moses even after Yeshua’s death.
