Deceit – 1 Peter 2:1

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

Today, let’s focus on the second item mentioned. That being deceit. Now, nobody wants to think they are a deceiver. And hopefully, we aren’t one. However, have you ever pondered this before? Have you ever deceived someone before? I’m talking about misleading someone for the purpose of hiding the truth. That’s what we are talking about here.

I say that because in 1 Kings chapter 20 starting at verse 37 we see a prophet who deceives the king but only to reveal the truth immediately after. Yet, when one deceives to cover something they don’t want to be exposed, well, that’s a different story.

For example, let’s say someone calls you at home. Someone else answers the phone, but it’s someone you really don’t want to talk to. You race to the bathroom and step into the tub. You then say “Tell them I’m in the tub.” Were you in the tub? Yes. Were you taking a bath? No. So did you deceive? Yes.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
