What is an AMA?

AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.

How long will I answer questions?

I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in.

What type of questions can you ask?

I'm open to pretty much anything but my interest fall in the following categories:

  • Crypto
  • Gaming (Video & Board)
  • Photography
  • Development
  • Technology
  • Productivity
  • Movies & TV
  • Comedy
  • Waiting for CPUs & GPUs to come in stock

Don't feel limited to the above categories, just things I generally talk about.

So let's get this shit started!

what is your real opinion about hive when will it really show a real pump???

I really don't see it pumping unless something drastically changes. Right now something like 80% of users are selling, DHF is paying out 12,000+ Hive/day most of which is being sold, a lot of which is going to projects that have very few users or does nothing to increase the value of Hive.

yes totally agree with you most of us are selling I personally have started investing in Hive not much but just started. I have seen many user they are kind of close to me sell regularly hive this is not good. They all should wait at least few month.
can't we do anything to stop them to sell 🤔

Every SELL has BUY counterpart. Those coins are not going anywhere. Someone is accumulating them. I'm one of them.

I have no prob with cheap hive
I want them cheeper.
Luv those -70% sales

Every sell has a buy, but it is not the same.

If someone is selling regardless, they will sell at the lower end price and maybe even lower the price even more to sell faster. While someone is buying on the other end, they are also buying on the lower end causing the price to drop.

If you want a token aggressively, you will bid on the higher side and maybe even raise your price causing it to go up. So while there is always a buyer, if everyone is trying to sell the price just continues to go downward or in Hive's case just doesn't go up.

Super you are accumulating! The stats show many are powering down and leaving. That in itself is not a good sign for the short term. I do hope the HIVE community can make some moves that will be positively viewed by the wider crypto universe. Maybe Leo Finance can help here, though we see Leo is liked (value of Leo is much higher over HIVE), though we also know the trade volume on Leo is super low.

I’m hoping we see a nice uptick over time of people sharing the games they are working on. If you ever post about it you would be more than welcome to share it in the new Game Development community.

I think we only have a small handful of devs here working on games, and not sure they share updates often at all. While I love the idea of a Game Development community, it's like my idea of an RC Cars community, there just isn't enough people.

@themarkymark, Just want to know your personal opinion, question follows below.

Which tribes or tokenised projects (excluding Leo finance) have working roadmap or particularly you are bullish about?

Have a great time ahead and stay blessed.

(Edited)

For tribes, I really only pay attention to Leo & STEMGeeks. I have been experimenting with Archon lately.

I think the price has really made it difficult for most tribes to do much. Most tribes have no revenue model and even if they are doing ads, it is so small that it really doesn't cover much of anything.

For "tokenized projects" I have invested quite a bit to buy up the entire BRO Fund market.

Would it be an idea for the HIVE based game owners to work together in any aspect possible? Maybe a Game landing / Promotion website with all sort of dynamic content of all these games?

I think this is a good idea, look at how @gerber integrated other tokens into DCity.

What you are talking about is just a landing page, this would be ideal on the main Hive.io site. There is already an ecosystem page on Hive.io with many of these projects https://hive.io/eco.

The problem isn't creating it, it is getting people to find it.

True. To me, its all super simple. If need be, the proposal system funds HIVE eco system marketing campaigns. If need be, hiring a company specialist in marketing and creating campaigns and run them. Thats for B2C and B2B in my view. Am not saying I will create one, but will you support such proposal?

I don't know the stats, but I believe what you state. What can be done the prevent proposal money to be dumped so much? I understand teams running a proposal have fiat expenses, but as in any startup company, out-of-pocket expenses shall be covered by internal team costs can be minimised, and maybe committed for some time, like in any startup company. What are your thoughts on this?

I believe in the good of people. However when the scene is set wrong, people may not act as good as they normally would in the case the scene is set right. For instance, when all of us would have a greater feel of being part of a 'team', feeling and being more inclusive, I think less actions are taken that will harm the common goal. But we don't seem to have a common goal, therefore this needs to be created first. And when we defined that common goal, we shall drive the all-inclusive side of things for all participating individuals. The whole idea of maximising revenues on short term should be trannsformed into something else, and for the longer term.

What's good champ, good to see you doing an AMA and pitching up the new community.

Here are my questions

What is your criteria when it comes to upvoting? I noticed you take voting seriously and me speculating try your best to distribute rewards properly.

I saw in one of your answers that 80 percent of users are selling. Why do you think that is happening? Do you think the proposal system has to do with it?

Third world country users are de-facto sellers given our situation. Wouldn't you think in the future about a basic income project on Hive so people can become more holder than sellers?

What's your take about LeoFinance?

Best Regards!

Best regards!

What is your criteria when it comes to upvoting? I noticed you take voting seriously and me speculating try your best to distribute rewards properly.

I really don't have anything specific, as I come across users I believe are doing good content or putting in effort, I'll add them to my list. If they abuse my vote, I'll remove them.

I saw in one of your answers that 80 percent of users are selling. Why do you think that is happening? Do you think the proposal system has to do with it?

I think most just want to put the money in their bank or another asset (i.e. BTC) without much thought of the future of Hive. A lot of people depend on the Hive rewards to pay bills and it's a necessity and it is the difference between eating and not eating.

As for the proposal system, I think it's much the same thing but also a counter productive syndrome where anything sponsored with Hive needs to be sold to cover outside expenses putting more sell pressure on the asset. Considering most of the proposals are pure labor, I think it is just people selling to put it in their pocket or another asset. It's nothing new, been happening since early days of Steem, but now we are handing out tons of money for questionable work.

Third world country users are de-facto sellers given our situation. Wouldn't you think in the future about a basic income project on Hive so people can become more holder than sellers?

I am not fan of "basic income" type of projects. Just because you exist shouldn't entitle you to receive a portion of the inflation. That's my opinion even if it isn't popular.

What's your take about LeoFinance?

I am a big fan of hustle and momentum of the project. I think we need a hundred projects like Leo.

I kinda agree with you. Leo like projects require firts of all devs. Added to that cool concepts and the drive to make everything happen other than the dev side of things. I noticed it's very hard to get devs interested to participate in nice concepts though. Been hunting for a while, without any luck.

This is a problem of decentralisation land. I see many projects that lack something to become successful, that can be something in the service, the look and feel, the ability to get funds, the ability to market, etc. I simply wish the few hands around would join truly great projects, but this is not really possible to arrange as far as my efforts went.

Why convergent curve?

I m still confused why this is implemented although it helps little bit to stop reward pool abuse. Self comments upvoting stopped but its unable to stop self post voting because it starts circle voting and vote trading. The curve only stop a small user with less stack but a whale can get other alternative to bypass the curve and this is happening. Only small user are getting punished. lots of authors lost engagement on their post because small user stopped commenting because of this.

Why Decentralised Developers fund share in the Reward pool?

If we have 80 M hive sitting on the DAO then why a certain percentage going from the reward pool to DAO. This will only increase the chances to abuse the reward pool.

What if we implement a system like defi?

We have saving account in Hive wallet which is totally useless till now. If there is some reward to park your stack in the savings then it will be amazing.

What you think about above questions

0
0
0.000
avatar

Why convergent curve?

Prior to the curve, users were able to farm rewards that were difficult to find due to their small amounts. By using comments they are also able to bypass sharing curation rewards.

The curve doesn't affect most users, even small users as their vote isn't the only vote. The curve is on the post not the vote. I will agree it does impact organic comment voting which tends to have fewer rewards.

Why Decentralised Developers fund share in the Reward pool?

It doesn't share the reward pool, it shares the inflation source. The inflation dedicated to the reward pool was reduced to make the DHF sustainable for the future.

What if we implement a system like defi?

Without smart contracts we really can't. This is one of the reasons I am a big fan of getting native smart contracts.

If there is some reward to park your stack in the savings then it will be amazing.

There is a witness parameter to support this already, but most witnesses are not voting for it. This parameter is mostly used to bring HBD up to $1 if it drops down too much, but to date we really haven't used it.

This is one of the reasons I am a big fan of getting native smart contracts.

The answer to one of my questions :)

Knowing KOINOS is coming out with a new chain sometime Q3/4'21 with feeless transactions, and smart contract support. How do you see HIVE competing with KOINOS, and so many other chains implementing smart contracts and making an easy migration path for Ethereum based Defi projects to move to their chain?

But if in the end the team doesn't own a major stake; What would you then say?

You think the KOINOS team is one of the big miners and owning the big adresses?

I don't know, but I certainly don't like how they have been evasive about it. I was in there when there was one miner making 35K Koin/hour (which would require an AWS infrastructure of $500K/month, gpu miner, or exploit) and they were talking for 2-3 hours about politics using blockchain and completely ignored all requests for information about it. At that point I completely gave up on the project.

Everything I have seen from the project has been disappointing and questionable.

I don't typically watch stand up, so I don't have a big opinion of specific "comedians", I just like funny shit in general and try to make as much as I can funny.

I do think Dennis Leary, Sarah Silverman and Ricky Gervais are pretty funny if I had to choose. As for dead, probably George Carlin.

TV Show, I recently discovered Impractical Jokers and I'm addicted. I just watch highlights on YouTube but I am going to see if I can find where I can watch all 8 seasons.

Talking about photography, have you seen my pictures lately? Ok is not really the question, when it comes to post about photography, do you think they really read the whole post or just see the pictures, and then decide to vote for your post or not?

I say it because according to the results that peakd gives me about my account, in the posts that have more photos, the visitors spend less time, and the posts with less photos (even a single photo) spend more time in the post, it's something crazy that I'm trying to check.

I have not.

I can't speak for others, but I think there are at least two different types. The first is your loyal followers who like you for you and read/look at most everything you do. Then you have casual viewers who may not know you and stumbled upon your post and opened it because it looked interesting.

Where do you see this information? As far as I know Peakd does not display anything about how your viewers interact with your posts. If you mean this:

That's just an estimate of how long it should take to read your post, the more pictures the less time it takes. Lots of text is a lot longer to read than looking at photos.

I highly recommend the Pi 4 2GB, it is only $35 when you can buy it at MSRP and it is 99.9% of the time you don't need more than 2GB.

I don't recommend most "kits" as they typically include inferior components to make the most money on the purchase since the Raspberry Pi has no profit margin.

If you need keyboard/mouse/monitor, I would seriously consider the Pi-400. It is an improved Pi 4 in a keyboard. It is relatively new and a fantastic starting point if you are looking at a desktop solution.

image.png

A Pi-400 is a bit more expensive as it includes a sd card, keyboard and mouse and is $100. The Pi 4 2GB will run you around $80-100 or so when you add everything you need. Neither of these include a monitor, I would recommend a TV or a small 21" display if price is an issue. You can get a nice 1080P 21" monitor for less than $100.

For example this Acer 21.5" HD IPS monitor is only $94 shipped.

Amazon will gouge you for Raspberry Pi products as there is no mark up so all distributors will bundle them with inferior products. Canakit is pretty good but the most important thing is to get a Samsung EVO+ SD card, the difference is huge compared to any other SD card on the market for Raspberry Pis.

I'd also check out Adafruit for picking up parts, they are very good for all maker products.

Hope this helps, feel free to join STEMGeeks Discord if you have more questions, and please use the technology tag if you make any posts talking about it so it will show up on STEMGeeks.net.

Thank you very much dear, for such a magnificent description, I will review what you have told me, to make the best choice and thus teach my nephew, (sorry I was nephew not niece), some programming and that he learn how to assemble the toy, I will look for all the components to form the best team that is very useful for both him and me of course since I will be accompanying him in the choice and assembly of it, I see that this keyboard option is fantastic so as not to have to be having I have to buy separate parts except the monitor but with this option it is quite complete, with the monitor that is easily solved it is more until I see that I can connect it to the television, and I have already seen a provider called Digi Key that offers the solution with shipping of this product, the truth is that I think that this option solves having to be buying the pieces and suddenly something goes wrong in the assembly but I will take the risk to make the best choice, when I have time mpo I will go find it and do the research, I have seen that the software is quite complete since you always need a word processor, spreadsheet and presentations which is incorporated into the software, so again thank you very much for giving it light in this regard and thank you for responding in such detail, I am infinitely grateful for the support.

Yes I have gone through stem geeks if I have published a few times, which is not very technical but if about plants some science that is my niche plants has gone well for me I have received a lot of support so I try to be in that way, thanks for the invitation to discord also later when leaving work I will pass,

again very grateful for the tips.

We have DHF and a lot of budget. But why devs/teams/individuals aren't coming with idea to get benefit from it. Tge budget we have can be used to create a lot of value to hive chain. Are we missing the idea? Or just lazy or waiting for a miracle to happen?

What is your opinion on very long period DHF proposal with huge amounts?
I believe propsal shall be for maximum 6 months with decent funding as required to build project. We don't have to put a 2 Year long proposal instead put a 6 month proposal with definite target and hit it within time and budget. Once achieved put a second proposal for additional funding to build and base it on previous proposal.

It is extremely difficult to get a proposal through, this is very discouraging to many devs.

Depends on the proposal, but so far I have been disappointed with most of the proposals.

I believe propsal shall be for maximum 6 months with decent funding as required to build project.

The recent hard fork changed the behavior making it more expensive and risky to submit a long proposal. It is 10 HBD to submit a proposal, previously this could be any length, now this only covers 60 days, after that it is an additional 1 HBD per day. This encourages people to submit a short proposal for 60 days to get a feel for how much support it has and prove to the community it is worth it, then submit a longer one when it expires.

I think the proposal system should also be used for other activities than development of code. That said, I beleive a proposal was made to handle marketing for HIVE, and I was told that one either was never published, or didn't make it. I had some ideas that could be funded by the proposal system, but as Marky responded to your comment, its exptremely hard to get a proposal come through while I'm not connected with the whales to make this happen.

Why does the Hive System required millions of tokens before one can have a tangible voting value, whereas Leo is much lower, giving every user an influence in rewarding contents?

Hive has 141,952,224 Hive Power actively voting.
Leo has 4,758,970 Leo Power actively voting.

Leo is worth 3.8x more than Hive.

Oh, so the price value influences the voting value?

It does not affect how much Leo you get, but it will affect what your payout looks like if you have USD values turned on.

No no, I understand that concept, what I meant was if the token price value would in anyway affect the voting amount I can issue, like if my voting value is 1 Leo, if price changes to sometime higher or lower, will my 1 leo power increase or reduce in anywhere?

what is the plan to take stemgeeks platform to the next level? And are we planning to burn the STEMM miners further? thank you.

what is the plan to take stemgeeks platform to the next level?

I think the most important thing for STEMGeeks right now is to get more authors onboard and that's my primary focus.

And are we planning to burn the STEMM miners further? thank you.

I am not sure the plans at this time, I already burned 99.75% of them. There are not many available.

I heard a rumor they are going to reboot Firefly. Do you believe it? and if they do will you watch it?

It has been talked about a lot, but then Disney actually bought it so it looks like it is going to happen. I will watch it but I am skeptical it will have the same magic and doubt it will have the same cast outside of maybe one episode as a hand off. Without Ron Glass (he died), it really makes it hard to pick up where they left off.

It actually took me a long longer than it should have to watch the whole thing and then finally watch the movie. If I remember right Fox bounced it around so much in different time slots and days that it was hard to watch it through in order. Thank goodness for streaming.

Taking into account what happened to Parler who ended up being banned from hosting services and also from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.

If governments start putting pressure on hosting companies to ban hosting sites or applications that interact with blockchains what will happen to our interfaces like @peakd, @leofinance and @dapplr?

How would our members be able to continue using Hive?

All three of them work if one of the others are down.
It is easy to move to another hosting provider as the backend (blockchain) cannot be kicked off.

I love technology. What do you think the future of humanity will be after going through this chaotic pandemic?

What technological advances do you think there will be?

Thanks for the opportunity to ask you @themarkymark

Not really sure on this, combined with the politics and racism going on all at the same time has created a whirlwind I think will take a long time to get back to "normal".

What technological advances do you think there will be?

I think AI is the primary focus of most these days.

Remember that time you sent me a video proving the Earth was flat, but when you looked at the entire video (and not the 2 seconds on loop you sent) it was clearly showing it was round? Good times eh?

You know that video you sent showed a flat earth when the camera was stabile and curved earth (both ways) when the camera was unstabile, you know why? Because the earth is flat !

Read that book and get enlightened.

I hope I'm not too late for this AMA round 😉

We learned from Blocktrades that he likes to move HIVE chain towards a chain supporting smart contracts while not implementing SMT, ie a native Hive Engine. What is your view regarding the future of the HIVE chain?

What is your view regarding content and curator rewarding from our first payer token? Shall we continue with that, or shall all these type of content based rewarding be implemented on 2nd layer?

What is your view regarding the future of the HIVE chain?

I am a huge advocate of native tokens & contracts as I think that is the key to Hive surviving in the future. Something drastically has to change.

What is your view regarding content and curator rewarding from our first payer token?

I am also a big advocate of removing rewards from the first layer, turning Hive into a utility token, and reducing inflation. In a perfect world I'd love to see social aspects completely removed from the core functionality and become one of many dApps with rewards as a second layer token.

The way I see it, if someone was to come to Hive and invest $1M USD, they would need to create posts daily, curate for 1-8 hours daily, downvote shit posts and reward abuse to maintain their relative stake compared to others who are doing it. It's basically a fulltime job. If rewards were on a second layer, they can choose which Dapps they participate in.

Do you say native tokens implemented as smart contracts? Or do we need something in the base layer?

I agree with blogging to become a 2nd layer token. I wonder what should be done with the reward pools currently at HIVE. As per your suggestion, reduce inflation I suppose. Somehow I think some available funds from inflation should be used to further increase the proposal system. That said, the whole proposal system needs further development, including additional governance, more transparency to where the money goes to, more reporting by those who receive the funds and more. The whole idea is that those who don't have a lot of time to go through all the information and situations, can easily and quickly make an more informed decision. Added to that, this bucket of money shall be used for serious HIVE ecosystem expansion, including support for non-tech proposals.

Native tokens on the first layer & first layer smart contracts is what I'd like to see, but they may end up as a second layer solution (like Hive Engine, just done better).

A little late but had a question, have you ever let the smoke out of electronics?

About two years ago my hard drive lit on fire. Oddly I was working on my new mix tape to give to my bae.

It was an external sata connector built into the top of my case. I used it a lot for swappable backup drive and I believe the connector failed. Was right when I was heading off for bed and my smoke alarm goes off.

Damn! I've never seen a hard drive catch on fire. I'll keep that in mind looking at cases. Seems like a short occured in the pin connections or something like that.

Glad your smoke detector got your attention.
