A Heads up, Image Suggestions and Let us Know if You've Used Any Images Yet.

Wow! When it comes to photography and making money from it, it certainly is a minefield! I don't want either our photographers or those using the photographs to run into any legal issues, so I've been doing a bit more research. This is a rather useful article which gives the reader the ins and outs of what is or isn't legal as a photographer in the US. While it's specific to the US, most of the western world seems to follow the same rules.

It recently came to my attention that some buildings can require model releases for commercial use, so I'll be updating the about post once I can make things a little clearer than mud. This article gives a fairly good idea of some of the times when you'd need one. The key seems to be whether it's recognisable and the sole focus of the image.

Have you used any of the stock images being submitted yet? If so tell us about it. Why did you choose it and whose image was it? It would be great for our creators to know if these images are actually being used. If you haven't used any, is it because you couldn't find what you needed? If so, let us know what it was you were looking for and we'll add it to the suggestions for our image creators.

What Images are People Looking for?

  • Emotions
  • Education
  • Fantasy images, including old style weapons
  • Finance (including notes and coins)
  • General use decorative dividers
  • Celebrations, festivals and holidays such as Christmas, birthdays etc. (Halloween is on the way...)

Please join in and add suggestions in the comments. What Images have you recently used in your content and what types of images do you struggle to find open source?

Do you want to start contributing to the Hive Stock Index? Please first read About Stock Images and Important Information.

Are you looking for specific stock images to use? Please view the Stock Images Main index where you can search by genre. This will be updated periodically as more images are added.

Many thanks to @lifeskills-tv for the image and adding the banner. Also thanks to @sitaru for the Hive bee image we use and @thepeakstudio for the divider. They will all be beneficiaries of this post.

I feel like I keep bringing in bad news. Perhaps we need to encourage our artists and cartoonists more if we want to get emotional expressions. Perhaps a contest or challenge is in order.

What are the acceptable qualities for images? Do one need to be a professional photographer or those of us that use our mobile gadgets can also contribute to the community?

There are no rules on quality here, some use mobile devices for their submissions. You might want to be selective of what you share for the sake of your own reputation, though. 😉 I may choose not to add particularly low quality ones to the index, but it's a personal choice if someone else wants to use them, so I wouldn't mute the posts or anything like that.

Of course. I can't just post into this community if I don't find that the image could come in handy to some people. I will also try my best the capture the essential features of whatever I am going to post. Also, I'm not comfortable with the idea of posting just images. I will always accompany it with a few words of explanation. Could go a long way.

Me neither!

I like what you've posted so far. I'm fascinated as to exactly how big the African land snails are.

I personally use dividers of both @cryptosharon and @thepeakstudio. They are great addition to my posts. For me this was something that I was missing and I am grateful to find what I need.

I'm rather fond of theirs too. Sharon's are so pretty, they're almost the highlight of the post!

That's great! I think the dividers come in really handy. I'm so trying to decide on a replacement for my rather boring one.
