Stock Images Newsletter, 19th August 2020. What's coming up and what you should know.

I've been blown away by just how quickly this community and people's enthusiasm for it have taken off! I really didn't expect it to be more than a basic dropping place for images and the occasional update of an index. However, the activity has made me decide to bring the community account into action to give some support to the amazing artists who are kindly sharing their work. While I can't guarantee that people using images from here will make the artists beneficiaries of their posts, indeed those with small accounts may not bring in enough to even do so, I can highlight authors and reward them through the community account.

I did consider making another account which could actually incorporate the name of the community, but for a variety of reasons I decided against it. I already have keys for other numerous accounts in lists and this account is here, so why not make use of it. So I hope you'll forgive the fact that it's not an easy to remember account name.

What's coming up.

What I'm hoping you'll be seeing from this account is creator highlights where we'll make the featured creators beneficiaries. I will also be using it to expand the index into more easily accessible sections and any votes on those posts will be used to power up the account. I may also be collating certain image genres into separate posts for easier reference. For example, we have lots of posts with various flower images and it’s a lot to go through if you're after a particular species. So putting the roses together, for example, would mean there is only one spot to go to for a rose picture instead of going through multiple, mixed posts. Each image would have the creator's username and specific requests underneath.

I use the word creators, because while we mostly have photos here at the moment, other artistic images are very much sought after too. Using the word photographers or artists seems to exclude one or the other, despite the fact that I would class photographers as artists too.

I've put the community forward for the @ocd incubation program. Fingers crossed we'll be accepted for support. If so, we can give the creators even more support.

Can you help?

I realise our creators are posting in all different communities and often have images in their posts which they're happy for Hivers to use. Rather than them adding a note every time, as to whether their picture/s can be used, it could be easier to add #hivestockimages as a tag and that would be the permission for it to be used on Hive. For use outside of Hive, please consult the creator themselves for permission.

As I make the indexes I'll trying to be as thorough as possible, but mistakes can be made and as the index pages multiply I may not have the chance to go through and check every link. So if you happen to find a broken link when you're looking through, please make a comment on that index post to let me know which one.

If you are submitting your images to the community, please try to focus on the quality of what you're submitting, mostly for the sake of your own reputation. For the sake of the reputation of the community, I will omit image posts from the index if I feel they are of low quality. However, I won't mute or downvote those posts, because I realise it's just my opinion and someone else might be quite happy to use them. If you find I've not indexed something of yours then don't take it personally. I've either not gotten around to it yet, or felt we had plenty of better quality offerings already. It doesn't mean your other images won't get indexed.

I'm pleased to have been able to use this beautiful image from @lifeskills-tv and give thanks to @riverflows for the idea behind the banner strip. Also, thanks, as always, goes to @sitaru for the bee logo. All will be beneficiaries of this post

I uploaded high-resolution Images but when download from the post, resolution was very low. So also consider some High-resolution upload and download mechanism.

I think that would need a separate site, which may be more what aggroed will accomplish with the nft site he's hoping to have out next month. For the purposes of use on Hive it's not a problem, though, because it's obviously limiting them anyway.

Yes, the separate website needed so Hivian get some high-resolution picture. also needed some guideline like- 1: Minimum Resolution 2: No logo 3: No visible face and landmark building etc.

I've also just realised that the adjusted image is lower resolution again, which could be down to the editing or it passing hands a couple of times. This is actually a really good point, if I end up making any separate posts to collate I should probably link back to the originals too.

Yes if you send this strip png - I email you a high-resolution picture after editing.

I don't have the strip. Riverflows put it together for me, which is probably why the resolution has downgraded as we've swapped it between us. I'll see what I can do closer to home.

Are you on discord?

Is there anything we can do to help you with HSP? Anything people posting could do to make indexing easier? Promote the use of HSP as a banner at the bottom of our blogs? (That's what I do, I also link to the dividers I found via HSP)

As long as there isn't too much of a mixture of image genres in one post, indexing has been fairly straight forward.

A couple of people have been adding a banner, which is great. I probably need to figure something out for the community account too. I don't actually have any editing software, so I'll have to sweet talk my daughter into it. In all honesty, I'm not rushing at the moment, because I wasn't expecting as much activity so quickly! 😅 I'm still putting things in place to get organised.

You should check out Canva for simple editing and banner making. It works right in your browser and I believe there is a phone app too! I like it for quick edits and simple banners. There are lots of templates of various sizes to make it as easy and painless as possible. Simply change the elements on screen and it's uniquely yours!

Wow look at you @minismallholding at it again! I think this community idea is excellent and very much needed. It seems like a lot of work at the moment but I know with other knowledgeable Hivians stepping up things will iron out. I am trying to find the time to get around to sharing some images. I’ve reblogged this post to help get more eyes on it and I put a good word in for this community with Acidyo sharing why I think it would be a great addition for the incubation program ;)

Rock on my friend, you are doing so much for the Hive community. I hope to one day be able to step back in and help you out again. ♥️

I had the same dilemma with using the hive-106444 account for #featheredfriends. But like you I decided it was the logical choice.
One suggestion. Could you include the link to the directory on your posts? I'm on my phone and have had difficulty finding it.
