It's Weird Being A New Dad At 44

The Title Says It All

It has been a crazy 5 days since little Ricky was born. Wow! I have never been so tired in my life. And that includes the last time that I had a kid which was 24 years ago!

It is an absolute world of difference between then and now, from my perspective as a father. There is really no comparison at all! Back then, I was a dumb 19 year old kid who thought he knew everything. I didn't think so at the time, but I was quite selfish and too caught up in my own drama to fully appreciate the amazing experience that I was having.

This time, at 44 years old and having gone through an awful lot in my life, this little guy really hit my heart hard. I was not expecting the emotional overload that ensued after his birth. For one, I never expected to be a dad again. My wife and I have been together for 15 years, and have never even had a hint of pregnancy. Then, 9 months ago - out of the blue she was pregnant!

So I've been sitting here staring at him for almost a week now. It's hard to believe that it has even happened. I find myself full of love, yet terrified of something hurting him. I find my eyes scanning around the room, zooming in on sharp edges of things, as if I'll accidentally drop of on them. It makes me hold him a little tighter!

I have so many things that I want to teach this little guy. I can't help but think that by the time he is 20, I'll be 65. I guess if I want to be in his life for as long as possible, I better whip my ass in shape! I guess all we can do is take life one day at a time. I am just super happy that he is here with us now!

Aww he's so cute! ❤ I understand how happy you must be, a child changes the way you walk hahaha. The good thing about having kids with the maturity you have is that you appreciate every minute with him and you're going to defend the time you want to spend with him. I was also a very young mother and I was working, so for me work was more important so I left my daughter with my mother, by the time I realized she was grown up and I missed the best part of her childhood. So take advantage of every minute because they grow up very fast, and take care of yourself so you can play soccer and other sports with him. 😜
Btw. La foto de su piecito quedó espectacular! ❤️

Congrats man! He's beautiful :)

I can totally relate on the seeing danger everywhere vibe. I went on a little vaycay to this cabin in the woods last week, and that place was so insanely NOT child proof, I was stressed out the whole time. I have a 1 and 4 year old and the 1 year old seems like he just wants to test how fast my reflexes are or something. He has zero concern about his own safety lol.

Awwwww look at his baby feet😍😍😍😍He is just adorable❤️ Imagine how lucky you are to experience fatherhood with the wise mind of today. You are so right that most people in their youth often miss appreciating the power of a baby in their lives. Too busy with making money, friends, dramas....they miss the beauty of childhood. But now, now you can really bond and have an amazing connection with the little one because of your past experience. Ah my heart is melted away seeing how a baby changes everything♥️ I am so happy for both of you, this little one curled himself up in your heart and it's going to stay. I think he will take up a large portion of your heart space, I have heard they like expanding hihi.

Congratulations again! He is a pretty cute little guy! I totally hear you about thinking you had it all together back then and looking back now to realize just how immature you really were. I think back to then entirety of my twenties and can't believe how much of a kid I was.
