Being Different - Curse or a Blessing?

I had a post with a similar title, but it was about another approach to this topic, so please bear with me...

From the very beginning, I was different. My family has descendants in another country, and I have been born as a foreigner in my country of birth... All my childhood I have tried to fit in... To be like any other kid... But I have been marked as different immediately... I had a different name and surname than any other in my class...

So blending into the masses didn't go well... lol... Especially when I was just one of the two or three children in the class that was asking the questions when we didn't understand something. That didn't mean that we were stupid as our grades were showing a different story...

I just was a curious kid that wanted to know the truth about why some things are happening, and why is something like my teacher said. (maybe I had problems with authorities... lol...)

Interestingly, when we find ourselves in some new surroundings, we try to be the same as any other in the group... Like I have tried when I was a child... To be like others... I don't' know if that was in the schooling agenda, or it's just my personal feeling...

Imagine the world without some visionaries from the past, from the present, and from the future? How would our world look like today?
We would probably still lived in caves.

I have tried to touch some of these things in my vlog, but more focused on our Hive and social media journey...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

I am different. I have never tried to fit in. Before many surgeries my cleft lip really showed. I learned early in life to embrace being different. I still do. The funny part is us different people find each other. Does that then make us the same?

We are all different in some ways... That doesn't make us the same... And that's a good thing... I like differences... :)

All I can say is thank goodness for age, it makes you more aware of the self and how important difference is.

I never fitted in as a child either, being dyslexic didnt help the cause and moving every 1.5 years and a different country every 3 years due to military parents didn't make it too bad, you quickly realised that you just had to be yourself because you were going to move soon and how confusing would that be to try and be something your not every 1.5 years

I believe, after my major accident when I was 17 I basically had to re discover myself and became acutely aware of how different I was, rather than fitting in with the people in my surrounding I moved to a place where I was the surroundings, I then through discovery realised the strength in self and the joy of being able to explore and express that.

It has been a journey, but then you find kindred spirits and the difference gets celebrated :)

I am very happy that I am different yet the same

All I can say is thank goodness for age, it makes you more aware of the self and how important difference is.

First, we try to fit and be good with everyone, later we want to stand out from the crowd and have a voice... Humans are weird creatures... :)

As I can see, you had a similar childhood as @maddogmike... Military parents and a lot of moving around... I believe it wasn't fun as a child having to move every 3 (or less) years... I was thinking about the same when we have decided to move to Spain... Trying to "spare" my son of the "torture", so we have done that before he got friends and girlfriends... :P

And the accident surely changed all in your life, and you had to start from scratch... I can't even imagine how hard was that...

But, at the end, if you didn't have all those experiences, who knows what kind of person would you be... It's cool when you "embrace" differences... :)

More-less, you are doing great and we love you as you are :)

Cheers!

I believe being different can be a blessing and a curse. I was basically normal all thru my childhood and young adult life. I n 2005 my life changed. i hurt my back and had to use a walker to get around my home and outside my home. The hard part is that people tend to ignore you. They walk in front of you and they do not see or care that they have done so. The blessing part is that since people don't notice me that I can go un-noticed.

That's an interesting view... :) It's no fun using a walker and people ignore everything, so I wouldn't say that you ignore you specifically... Especially with this new-age stuff... Nobody looks around at all.. just head in the mobile phones...

The truth is it requires strength to be different. It is so much easier to go with the flow and to blend into the masses. Being different means that there is an interior fire that is too strong to be extinguished by the desire to fit in.

I always felt different and in a way I was proud about it. I felt strong enough to do things differently and to go my own way and to have my own opinions. On my path I learned one thing that I found very important. We should be proud to be different but we should also accept that others want to blend in. Not everybody is strong enough for it...

This is well said... Not everyone wants to be different... A lot of people want to be behind someone's back... Actually, I didn't blame others for being the same... I wanted to be like them... lol... Until a certain point of life...

We should respect both choices. Thanks for pointing that out!

As kids we just want to be like the others. It's only with a certain maturity that we learn to be proud of being different I believe.

While I don't think it REQUIRES strength to be different, I think when you are different it either builds strength or leads to anxiety. Sometimes we are intentionally different (which, like you say, requires strength), but other times we are different due to reasons beyond our control (which effects our outlook on life). How we react to that difference (the way we feel different and the way we are treated different) will be a part of forming our perception of who we are. While we have a choice as to what we believe, this difference, in and of itself, has nothing to do with strength. The strength comes IF (not when) we choose to stand firm in our difference and not be transformed by it.

I swear, your videos keep getting better & better. I resonated with this video on so many levels! :)

Being different is something I am all too familiar with. Some of it is for different reasons - medically & physically, but also spiritually. Even when I was younger, I always felt like I was an old soul. I related to adults much more than I did with kids until my teen years. I never quite fit anywhere in a neat little box. And tbh, I was perfectly okay with that. Yes, there were times it was awkward or even frustrating when I wanted to "fit in." But as I got older, I realized we all have our own uniqueness & that should be celebrated, not suppressed. People call me weird & I am happy about that ha ha. :)

I agree with you about the not being able to decide how you feel about some others that don't really engage on a meaningful level. Unfortunately, I tend to have the same attitude because if someone just comments on my post with neutral, robotic replies like "nice job", I can't base anything on that. I can't build a connection, a friendship or even an opinion! There is nothing there. In those cases, I would rather no comments be made. Even if they disagree with me in a respectful way & comment, that is okay. We can agree to disagree or even have a healthy conversation. But at least we can learn from one another & I can move forward how I feel. I hope that makes sense, but I get where you're coming from.

Never change, Zoltan. Always be you and do it unapologetically. I know you are! :) I am glad I finally learned that lesson so now I am not afraid to express myself. Awesome video!! Please keep sharing more of this great content! :) 💜

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, Jenn... Appreciate your continuous support!

You said it all and I really can't add anything else to your comment... :) We do appreciate more our differences as we are getting older (or better said, "more experienced"... lol...)

Sometimes is cool to be weird... People do notice those things, much easier when you are doing something nice and "normal"... lol...

Walking and recording videos, and doing that consistently - That's different, unique, and amazing! I don't have to tell other people who I'm talking about if I say what kind of videos and how he makes videos. I'm sure people will recognize you.

Sometimes being different feels lonely. You do your own thing and you usually do not see other people around you doing that or even think like you. When you embrace your uniqueness, that can make wonderful. It can position yourself in a better place to succeed. How you see it and act, that makes the difference.

Thank you for your kind words!

How you see it and act, that makes the difference.

This was right on spot... We are maybe living in the same time, doing similar things, maybe even the same job... But we have different perpective about it, and different react and act on them...

The only person you have to be everyday is you. Unapologetically. Be yourself. My goodness how boring would this world be if we were all the same. I'm enjoying getting to know you and all your uniqueness. Especially your odd love FOR CAPS WHEN we CHAT! :)

hahahahaa... I knew that you LIKE my caps in chats and comments! :P

My goodness how boring would this world be if we were all the same.

And you are right about this... That's why I can't stand when people try to copy each other, or even worse when they want to LOOK as someone else... :)
