Madrid icons
They were not born to become true icons of the city, not even despite their fortunate status as royal infantazgo.
Velázquez, possibly the greatest painter of all time, was far from imagining, when he immortalized them on canvas, the popularity that they would reach with the passing of the centuries.
To the point, that the Meninas, those regal but not very graceful infantonas, continue to be, to this day, an essential part of that gallery of emblematic icons representative of a city, Madrid, whose cultural commitment is worth knowing.

In reality, they are now part of an interactive show, of an artistic and cultural nature, that is worth seeing, but until relatively recent times, they were put on the main streets of the Center of Madrid, as a kind of game with which tourists By looking for them, they could get to know the most relevant, artistically and culturally speaking of the city. Las famosas Meninas!! A propósito de popularidad, llama la atención que una pintura de la familia real, trascienda no por sus protagonistas principales sino por esas cuidadoras que se hicieron inmortales. Me gusta que las Meninas aun sean parte de Madrid, supongo yo que eternamente y no por una temporada. Me gustan, también, las dos últimas menina con los dibujos de torero en su falda y de bailadora: cultura dentro de la cultura, arte dentro del arte. Si tenemos que hablar de íconos españoles, pues aquí están recogidos algunos: el torero, la bailadora, Velázquez y por su puesto, Las Meninas. Abrazos
Lo cierto es que vistas en el cuadro, son un espanto. Pero supongo que por eso, han caído en gracia y han terminado convirtiéndose en un icono de la ciudad. En años anteriores, realizaban una serie de treinta o cuarenta, reivindicativas y las distribuían por el Centro de Madrid, lo que era una forma no solo de promocionar la ciudad, sino también de invitar a los visitantes a ir descubriendo los sitios más relevantes. Este año, han hecho un espectáculo audiovisual bastante interesante: el Velázquez Tech Museum y aunque no sea como la que espero poder ver en breve (si consigo entrada, claro) de Van Gogh (ya vi la primera hace dos o tres años y me encantó) lo cierto es que es un espectáculo que merece la pena. Pero, ay Dios, si Velázquez levantara la cabeza....Abrazos
