In the same way that the mensarios (almanacs) were a recurring element in many Romanesque churches, Astrology was also present, although it was always surrounded by suspicions on the part of a very large sector of the clergy and there was a time when it was considered also as esoteric matter and therefore prohibited.

The most significant of the Spanish medieval Zodiacs, it is located outside the main facade of San Isidoro de León, that important monastery that altered the ancient itineraries of the Camino de Santiago in the 12th century by royal mandate and whose Pantheon, where the Kings of León, it is an authentic wonder, which is not in vain called 'the Sistine Chapel of Spanish Romanesque Art'.

But as Shakespeare affirmed, there are more things in heaven and on earth than our philosophy can dream of and the stars and their mysteries, no doubt, are one of them.

Of course, we still have little curatorial authority, but we are working on this, we are constantly negotiating with curators to support our community. We really hope that large curators will pay attention to us in the near future.

Do medieval zodiacs date back to ancient Romam temple?

Astrology dates back to the dawn of time. These, having been made by Romanesque stonemasons and located in Romanesque temples, may well be called Romanesque Zodiacs.

Abrazos
