Taking the Heat in the Kitchen
There's an old saying -
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen
Yesterday was a stinker. The Weather Channel said 39°C. The Husband measured 42°C in the shade in our old fashioned max and min thermometer.
Kitchen day started a 07h30 although prep on the rolls always starts on a Thursday evening. That had also been a hot day and my addled brain, in autopilot, just scooped flour. Suddenly there were two would-be batches of white rolls. Not one white and one brown. After all, you can't take flour out of a wet mix.
C'est la vie.
Two dozen white will make their way to the market. No brown.
Then it was koeksisters: the batter had to rest and while that happened, collected the brinjal and checked on my team atna neaeby property. Brinjal picked while I waited.
Back in the kitchen it was knock down, roll, cut, knock down, deep fry 60 koeksisters, cut and roll 2 dozen and leave to prove. Then it was time to chop, peel and roast for the chicken liver paté and the roasted pepper ratatouille.
Finally it was pot cottage cheese and portion ratatouille.
Hot, yes, and I admit being more than ready for bed at 21h00, but give me this over cold, any day!
Another hot one ahead, but not quite like yesterday. I hope.
Until next time, be well
