Showcase Sunday: Twenty five!
Today we did a small shooting, Fotini (my partner) and I, to show off a handicraft that she had made last fall. You see, she has been working on the loom for quite some time but apart from a few occasional posts that I have written about her, she hasn't exposed her work, at all. But now, I am really glad to say that see is moving to "phase-2" of her project which is of course to address to a broader audience and demonstrate her work!
For that purpose she made a new Instagram account, so if you are interested in weaving and handmade crafts, or if you want to take a peek of our rural lifestyle and relation with nature though her point of view, please give her a follow. You can either hit the link above or search for her as traisto_loom.
As I said myself a couple of weeks ago when I announced my own insta, she is also very argumentative towards mainstream social media but we both concluded that a platform with such huge user base, is a tool that we cannot afford to ignore. And if the day comes that we'll have thousands of followers, nothing will make us happier than to bring them all to the hive community :)
The first part of the post is my contribusion to @c0ff33a for his #SublimeSunday and @ace108 for his #beautifulsunday initiatives!
But if you want to take a look of how this weft was made and you have missed my last November's post about it, keep reading! Because today is also #showcasesunday, an idea of @nonameslefttouse meant to revive old posts!
So let's take a quick look to the making of this decorative piece, which is supposed to be hanged on the wall.
It is made from jute threads while the colorful parts are from wool. Have you ever used jute? It is a wonderful thread, all natural and very strong, suitable for many uses. Not very soft when you touch it, though!
The concept is to make 25 colorful triangles as she is weaving the main fabric. So everything is made thread by thread simultaneously. Kind of a printer that paints the design one line after another but in this case everything is done by hand!
I can never resist to an artistic approach of the loom. It is such an amazing construction!
Anyway a few hours later the first triangles were ready.
And so on, till the last one :)

Pure art. This type of posts I'd like to see on trending.
Thank you from both, the weaver and the photographer :)
Nice post @fotosef - when are you writing the weaving-as-mindfulness-natural-medicine post? Using tags like #craft and #weaving will get more of the "right" people seeing it. My mother has been a weaver for 50 years. 😊
That looks like lots of effort. All the best with progressing that piece of work.
Thanks a lot :)
You're welcome
Watching the piece emerging via the photos is almost therapeutic in itself!

Wow, good for her! That looks fantastic. I see the dog seems to appreciate it, too. 😀
My 11 year old son has a loom. I just showed him these pictures and I think he's inspired to try it out!
Many thanks from all 3 of us!
Fotini was very happy to hear that her work inspired a new weaver :) At your disposal if you have any questions!
