Some misconceptions and superstitions about mental health treatment in rural areas!

"Mental health", we can't avoid this term if we want to. Because we all suffer from mental illness at the individual level. So we need to be much more aware of this issue. Although many of us do not pay much attention to this issue. As much as we care about our physical health.

But the reality is that most of us are not aware of mental health illnesses. While there may be mental health and illness like physical health, many of us don’t take it seriously. This is ridiculous, especially to people in rural areas.

Many people in rural areas compare it to insanity when mental health is ill. That is why they are not going to psychiatrists but they find insane doctor or mad's doctors. Many mistakenly call psychiatrists as a " insane doctors." And they despise mental illness and compare it to insanity.

About 90% of people in rural areas have this idea in mind. So many people suffer from mental problems and do not seek medical help. Because they have the idea that if they continue to seek treatment for mental health, people in the community will continue to despise them. And call it insane. Many do not seek medical attention for fear of that. Again many are looking for a insane's doctor, not a psychiatrist.

Moreover, most people in rural areas have misconceptions or beliefs about mental disorders. Most of the people in the rural areas but some people in the city now have the idea or belief that at the root of mental illness are jinn-ghosts (jinn or ghosts have entered our body and they are turning us around as they please), black magic, sorcery or kufr kalam (this is one Types of magic with the help of which one can be brought to one's favor or someone can be harmed) etc. As a result, they are still seeking treatment through amulets, amulets, charms, etc. And that is why people go to Kabiraj (who has no certificate of knowledge. But he treats all the diseases of the world through scrubbing) or any religious guru.

And that is why our problems are never solved. Rather this mental health illness becomes more complicated. But the sad thing is that in this age of knowledge science, people still have many misconceptions. Many even believe in this treatment. Although many do recover from time to time, which is a coincidence. But the patient recovers for some other reason and not through fake chest.

It is called in Bengali language, "The crow died in the storm, the miracle of the fakir increased".

So now is the time for us to get out of our misconceptions and become aware of mental health. Because we need more physical and mental well-being. Because we can't stay healthy without any of them.
