Mindful Monday - Finding That Peaceful Calm Spot During the Rollercoaster of Life

When life throws you curve balls or bombards you with stuff, how do you respond?

Do you collapse under it? Will you strike out blaming?
or will you reach inwardly to find the strength and clarity to face it full on?

I find when confronted with trying situations it is important to keep your focus and be clear in your direction. Also if it comes into play, knowing how you want to live your life. With that comes knowing your values and such things as what gives meaning to your life.

Recently I've had different areas in my life seem to come crashing down on me (I'm sure many of you also are facing many challenges with the rapid changes bought about by the "Covid crisis".) It is in times like this that I reach inward relying on my inner strength and fortitude.

I am grateful to have developed a strong meditation practice, a discipline where I can cut through and release negative energies or whatever has been bothering me. I go to a calm peaceful spot within where it is tranquil and I seek insights or truths of the nature of reality. Realize that everything is in flux and there is a constant state of change. With this constant change I realize that whatever I am experiencing is going to pass away as will all things in this life.

I'm grateful that I developed this meditation practice through the years, both during good times and bad times for it has served me very well.

The meditation practice I talk about is Vipassana. I first took a meditation course close to twenty years ago at the International Meditation Center in Maryland, USA. I see there are still being courses taught at different centers around the world, International Meditation Centers and Vipassana Meditation Centers, even during the pandemic. Do a search and find a center near you.

Oxford dictionary definition of Vipassana is:

(in Theravada Buddhism) meditation involving concentration on the body or its sensations, or the insight which this provides.

Over at Wikipedia it gives a good description of Vipassana here

I took other preparations during the good times in preparation for the bad times.

As Robert Kiyosaki said:

Prepare for the worst of times so you will only know the best of times!

I have three other outside garden patches placed in different locations throughout the forest. Living in the forest I have learned to forage and eat from the abundance of the wilds around me too.

I had taken Robert's words to heart and as the old adage says: "I put away my seed grain" so I can be sure to have the necessities of life on into my old age.

I have five more months of work before I can retire and take my full pension. Unfortunately, with the government Covid measures and all the restriction that have been placed on my work, this last year I had planned on working I will be cutting short. In fact I would not be returning to work, work I enjoy (working with the Pre-K in the Play and Exploration program), under these conditions at all if it were not for the fact that I can not claim my full pension until February 1st 2021.

I'm looking forward to my retirement with my peaceful life in the forest.

What have you done to prepare yourself for hard times?

Images taken with my Canon PowerShot unless otherwise stated.

I'm impressed at how prepared you are in your gardens for both the extremes of winter and the summer months too. I'm also eyeing up that meditation space with some envy. Realising I have some preparing to do.

With all your preparations before pensionable years you have taken decisive steps along the way for once you are home all the time, plenty to keep oneself busy and content.

Having to wait longer due to unforeseen events, hopefully time will sort this problem out, look into policies both a home and at work if there are no clauses covering loss of earnings. We have an unemployment fund one pays into while working, available once work is no longer available.

Keep positive, moving forward to enjoying your time to enjoy the woods full time.
