The Sweet Leaves Juice To Help Easing Fever

avatar

Hello, this time I would like to share about a kind of leaves that is called don kayu manis in Balinese or Sweet Leaf (Sauropus androgynus).

This plant is very common in Bali, and in Indonesia. You can find it grown in farms, or in the gardens around houses. The plant has green little leaves. If you eat the leaves (you can eat them raw), it tastes rather sweet. Its flower is red or yellow. The Sweet Leaf I share here is the one with yellow flowers (see the photos).

The Sweet Leaf is believed to have many health benefits. In our tradition, we treat a fever with Sweet Leaf juice (it's called loloh or jamu in our language). It also used to help to provide nutrition to mothers who breastfeed their babies.

You can serve these leaves as vegetables. It's very common to have this vegetable soup or mixed with rice porridge. This time I made it into juice because I believe in its health benefit. It tastes good too, unlike the Moringa juice I made before.

First, I picked up the leaves from the stem and put them into a little basin.

I washed the leaves in running water. Next, I put the leaves into the blender with two glasses of water.

Then I blended the leaves for about 2 minutes.

It's actually ready to drink after the blending. But to make it finer, and remove all the remaining leaves from the juice, I poured the juice into a sieve and then into the glasses.

I got two glasses of Sweet Leaf juice. This would help me to cure my mild fever.

Thanks for reading.

Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful plant, and for telling us the many ways in which you can consume it. I love how green the juice is.

Your post is wonderful and that's why it has been manually curated for #adiwathrive by @auelitairene

Here in Venezuela there is a very similar one in the jungle, only there they let it ripen a little more before eating it so that its vitamins explode, as well as its taste.
I haven't had the chance to try them in juice, but I'm dying for one.
