In this beautiful opportunity I want to show you my valuable cultivation of parchitas plants. Here in my country Venezuela we know them by that name, but it is well known that in other regions they are called maracuya, passion fruit, chinola, parcha.

Looking for information about its scientific name, I found in Wikipedia that this plant is called Passiflora Edulis and that it is considered native to the Amazon of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and northern Argentina. It also belongs to the genus Passiflora.

I have a short time taking careful care of my crop, but I want to tell you about one plant in particular. It was the first of many others that have been added to the garden.

This small plant did not seem to have a future. It had grown on its own in another location and I transplanted it to one that seemed better. It was coming up with a thin stem and few leaves, yet I watered and fertilized it hopefully.

I had never really grown parchita plants so I was ignorant of its growth process. Sometimes it bothered me because I did not see the progress.

A little more than a year went by and I didn't pay much attention to it, except to water it and open the furrow of its foot to retain water.

When I least expected it, its branches began to spread, with more and more branches coming out.

In a short time it began to bloom. First two flowers came out, maybe three. Then I got worried again because I didn't see any insects pollinating them.

I wanted to do the pollination manually but felt it was not the right thing to do, so I started asking experienced growers if cigarron insects were coming to their orchards. A relative, who grows other crops, instructed me and assured me that when there were more flowers, they would arrive. Indeed they did.

My favorite plant, because it was the first of the parchita crop, began to produce many flowers, and it was a pollination party, with the cigarrones arriving one after the other.

What a joy and satisfaction to see the fruits of having been patient and persevering and not having abandoned the planting just because I ignored the harvest time.

Now my first-born plant has many fruits, and so do the others I planted. It has been quite a growing experience.
