Preparing Rava Paddu
I am very fond of South Indian Dishes and thus I try to prepare them mostly at home to see if I can get that authentic taste as we get it in restaurant. Preparing rava paddu is quite easy and quick and thus it can be made as a breakfast or we can have it as a dinner. For me I have created it in dinner time with sambhar and coconut chutney.
The ingredients which I need for creating the rava paddu,
- 200 gms rava for 3 people
- 400 ml Buttermilk
- finely chopped small onion
- finely chopped green chilly, ignore if you do not like it little spicy
- half tablespoon mustard Seeds
- one forth tablespoon Asafoetida powder
- half tablespoon cooking soda
- one tablespoon salt
- cooking oil
Just like we do not need too much ingredients, making batter and cooking paddu is quite easy too. Let's prepare the paddu. At first we create the batter, where we put the roasted rava and add then add butter milk to it. Mix it well so that you don't get lumps in the matter.
After that in a pan, heat 2 table spoon cooking oil, add mustard seeds, asafoetida powder, finely chopped onions and cook it until it becomes soft. After cooking add it to the batter along with the cooking soda and salt as per the taste. Again mix it well and your batter is ready to be cooked.
Now heat the paddu utensils on medium flame for 5 minutes. After it becomes little hot grease the molds with cooking oil. Now start adding spoon full of batter in each mould.
After this add the cover and let it cook on low heat. After around 3-4 minutes, just change its sides one by one.
Again cook for another 3-4 minutes, you can cover it again. Now you can remove all the paddu from the utensils and is ready to be served.
In my case the middle 3 became little brown than the rest. You can move some of the paddu from the sides to the middle if it was not cooked properly. Once everything becomes dark brown than its ready to be served.
It can be served with Chutney
Or with Chutney and Sambhar
Some Paddu shots,
And it taste great.
