Millions of Peaches, Peaches for free! Q { If you could only choose one fruit to eat for the rest of you life, what would it be?}

Receiving peaches from a friend yesterday made feel extremely grateful. The price of a peach like this goes for about $5 dollars here give or take, fruits are extremely expensive in Japan. It is not uncommon to walk into a supermarket and see a watermelon for $70... seriously.

I received the peaches because my friend asked me to check his English translation for a very important doc that will be for a national campaign. I insisted I need no thank you or compensation as it was quite short and I get things like this done free all the time( translating from English to Japanese)...but that is not the Japanese way. Long story short, he showed up at my house with for of these beauties.

This was literally my breakfast this morning, it was so juicy I had to hold a tissue underneath it while eating, not to mention the sweetness. Man I really love fruits, but if I was to buy the fruits I really wanted to eat I'd go broke here. So you know what, I am gonna attract the fruits I want, yup, just like I did with these peaches 😄

If you have land that has fruit trees consider yourself very lucky. In Jamaica, my parent's home is full of fruits. Mangoes, oranges, bananas, apples, sweet sop, sour-sop, plums, limes, star apples and more. And here I am without even a square inch of land ( Crypto don't fail me now 😂). It is interesting how many want the city life, they would rather tall buildings surrounding them than trees and parking lots instead of farm land. Of course there is always the best of both worlds, close to he city with a nice lot of land. Hmmm here I am dreaming of property, the only "real" estate. Hope you enjoyed the photos and the little ramble.

Oh, yeah I put a question in the title to engage people, you know the people not just looking top make some coins 😄 but actually communicate.

So for me, If I had to choose 1 fruit to eat for the rest of my life, it would be grapes. Something about grapes, just makes me feel like a king and the various types, yeah, I could stick with just grapes...but glad I don't have t0.🍇

Oh, and you know what song popped into my head seeing these peaches? Yup, Presidents of the United States, Peaches. what was that song really talking about?😁

Wow, $70 for a watermelon is ridiculous. Here they are about $2 converted from local currency.

That's a great friend right there tho, with a thoughtful gift.

I'm not much of a fruit guy, but if I had to choose a favorite one, it would definitely be (and I just realized that this is in fact a fruit) avocado, with tomatoes and plantains as a close second and third.

Yup! Japanese take serous pride in their farming. So it is always good to get free fruit. The Melons look amazing but not $70 amazing LOL.

Indeed, I need to to as thoughtful as him.

Oh yeah, Avacado is a fruit for real, LOL jut realized that myself. Oh man, plantains, I can get them here but it is a bit pricey and I have to buy a lot. I think I might treat myself though, plantains are so good.

So I see you are not much into sweet taste.

I see. The limited space there is for agriculture probably has something to do with the price as well.

True, while I do enjoy sweet food, I'd go with savory almost any day of the week.

Well, the plantains can be sweet. We have a certain kind here in Suriname that sweetens as it becomes ripe. We then fry it in batter and eat it with spicy peanut sauce. Delicious!

Here's a quick example from the web

If I had to pick only one fruit? Probably watermelon! They're fresh, delicious and go well with any kind of weather! And they're excellent with ice-cream and/or yogurt! 😋

Water melons are great , especially if you get them free. In the summertime they play smash the watermelon blind folded here ( not sure what they call it though. Good fun though. After you smash it everyone just dives in for a piece

I haven't seen a peach in ages. Japan's got all kinds of climate zones, and they got wicked science, so what are they not growing over there is the question? Oh, nevermind, marijuana is the answer to that question.

Hi @dmilliz
A watermelon for 70 dollars? are you serious?
70 dollars I get served here to eat for two weeks ha ha
Seriously. Crazy, I was very surprised by that. People want to live only in cities, I'm a city dweller, but I enjoy a countryside, a house with a big patio, like the one I grew up in, I love it, so there's something for everyone. Better not eat fruit and get ruined, I do not see it very convenient he he

Yup, you heard that right. interestingly some mangoes that grow in the south sell for $50..... for one. And people actually buy them. The farmers here are proud of their fruit and take rel good care of them. I guess you could say they know their worth.

In between the city an country is the best for me, too extreme and its get played out. A city like NYC or Tokyo, only for business and nightlife for me....but Kingston is a different story, that is my kind of city, in a blink you can escap to the hills😄

Hi @milliz

"but Kingston is a different story, that is my kind of city, in a blink you can escap to the hills😄"

I think you miss Kingstong, and it is normal to miss the place where you were born or grew up, I can say that as an immigrant.
The truth is that I find it extremely expensive to buy fruit in Japan. But the value comes from the care that is taken with it.
Cities are good for that, nightlife, maybe there are more possibilities, but the truth is that nightlife now is something else with all this, life in the open air and eating well is demonstrated with this world event that is more necessary.
