DIY - How To Invent A New Soup - A Different Chicken Soup

This is a funny story that makes me laugh every time I think of it. It's my story, created by life and circumstances.

Those of you following my blog know that I like to cook, bake and can food for winter, especially fruits and vegetables from the garden. I cook my own meal and have a series of recipes in my head, many inherited from my mother and grandmother. However, sometimes I like to improvise and invent new dishes. I just look at the ingredients available in my fridge and storage room and think of what I could do with them. This is what's happened with this soup.

I wanted something between soup and main course, something to be enough for lunch. I thought I make something with chicken legs and rice, but then I thought why not add some carrots as well, for the flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 carrot,
  • 2 chicken legs,
  • 6 garlic cloves,
  • 1 tbsp olive oil,
  • 100 g rice,
  • salt,
  • pepper,
  • tarragon in vinegar
  • sour cream.

Slice the carrot into rounds. Heat the olive oil in a soup pan, add carrots and stir for a few minutes, the the oil becomes orange.

Add water to cover, add the chopped garlic, salt, pepper, chicken legs, cover with a lid and cook till everything is half tender.

Add the rice and the tarragon and cook till everything is tender.

Season with salt, pepper if necessary, add vinegar and serve with sour cream.

After tasting the soup I created (improvised) started to realize the taste is similar to another soup called ciorba radauteana, that is made of chicken breast and vegetables, but that is served without rice and vegetables. I may cook that one day. It's a very good dish.

The beauty of cooking is that you have the freedom to create anything you want, you just need the ingredients and some experience to know what goes with what.
