Can You Handle Splatts' Super Meaty Mondo Breakfast Burrito??

avatar
(Edited)

I am a sucker for a big 'ol breakfast burrito in the morning from any of the few local Mexican restaurants here in town. Equipped with a drive-thru, they are almost like a fast food joint. !0 minutes and you got a breakfast that will last most people until dinner time. Typically I just give a quick phone call about 10 minutes before I will be passing by and swing in and snatch up a tasty Chorizo breakfast burrito. That grease really gets me goin' in the morning... no not that way sillies, Geez 😜

When it comes to the weekends, typically I take over the breakfast duties. I am a scrambler making fool! Just cut up some bacon, or crumble up some pork sausage, dice up some potatoes and a little onion and mix up a blend of duck and chicken eggs. Melt some cheese on top and add a couple dashes of some habanero hot sauce and breakfast is served. This time I decided to kick it up a little bit. I found just the perfect tortillas for the job. These things should be able to handle...

Breakfast Burrito

Like the name suggests, don't be shy with the meat. for this monstrosity of a breakfast burrito, I took a pound of bacon and cut it up using some good kitchen scissors. When you want to cut bacon into little bite sized morsels this works great. Then I crumbled up a pound of pork sausage and a pack of some honey smoked ham. We typically use this for sandwiches but why not use it to pump this burrito up a little more.

Now that is a pile of meat

Next we need to add a good bunch of potatoes to the mix. You need to cut them up small enough so that when you take a bite your bite doesn't just consist of a chunk of potato. You gotta get a little bit of all the ingredients in every bite. To keep these red potatoes from sticking to my non-stick pan, I always throw a few chunks of butter for a little lubrication. Don't forget the salt and pepper either

IMG_7117.jpg

This is a two pan size job I got going on here. Plus it makes it a little easier to ensure that all the meat is cooked properly and you can get those potatoes to brown up nicely also.

Well I don't have one of those big fancy kitchens with 2 stoves or 8 burners to cook on. So while the potatoes and meat are cooking, might as well get the egg mix ready. I typically do 50/50 mix of Duck eggs and chicken eggs. Add a little raw milk and put it in the blender. Using a blender helps make the eggs all nice and fluffy

IMG_7125.jpg

Now the kids aren't big fans of onions and peppers, but Mommy and Daddy are! So I sliced up some yellow and orange bell peppers along with some onions and sautéed them in a pan. Just enough to soften them up a little but still maintain that nice veggie crunch.

If you plan on making a Super Meaty Mondo Burrito you need a tortilla that can handle all that poundage you are gonna stuff inside. The normal "burrito" tortillas aren't gonna cut it for this one... Glad I found these monsters

IMG_7129.jpg
Yep, these should be big enough to make a burrito for a burrito eating contest... Don Pancho, You are the Man!

Now comes the fun part, it's time to build this Mondo Meaty Breakfast burrito. My pans that are big enough to hold this tortilla are already in use, so I resort to my rarely used microwave to warm it up to make it flexible in order to withstand all the poundage.

For those of you who don't know my food consuming capabilities... I can eat with the best of them. At 5'11' 180lbs I can put away some large quantities of food. I ain't no Furious Pete or a

Matt Stonie

But when the time is right I don't do to bad in the food eating department. Welp, after making everything to fill this burrito I am dang hungry!!

IMG_7136.jpg

With a couple drops of habanero hot sauce, this monster burrito has amazing flavor! I really like the added crunch of the bell peppers. There is just something about that veggie crunch...

IMG_7137.jpg

It's tough to tell the sure size of this thing. I don't have small hands by any means, from outstretched pinky to the thumb in 9 inches. I often use that to measure things with. In the "Thumbs Up' position, its 6 inches from the side of my hand to the end of my thumb. Does that help or does it help to confuse??? The length isn't what gets ya, its the girth! I could make the biggest burrito in length but with no girth, that burrito ain't beeeep You know kind of like this scene from Cheech And Chong

We gotta have that poundage DANG-IT!! Gotta have that girth!!! At about 3/4 of the way through I am starting to feel the weight of this thing. but dang is it satisfying...

IMG_7138.jpg

Wait a minute... I didn't take a picture of the empty plate!!! Mama Splatts can vouch for me... My plate is always clean. Shoot when I was growing up my Mom called me the garbage disposal. I would sit at the table and eat everyone's leftovers... Of course that was when I was super active in sports and lifting weights in high school. Nothing finishes off a breakfast with an ice cold glass of Raw Milk, thick and creamy and... filling....

I am Done!!

Until Next Time...

Breakfast burrito looks amazing. I'm really jealous. I could do without the milk though ~ it will wreck my day.

These days I use tortillas as hotdog buns (I know it's super authentic Mexicana~).

True, just one of these beasts should last a normal person all day. Me and my metabolism... 10 am and I am hungry again.... lol

Hmm, yeah it looked pretty beastly. And you know, when I've got a powerful hunger going on, beastly food is exactly what the old G-dog needs! 😉

When you say "Raw Milk" @jlsplatts, do you mean 'fresh from the cow', unpasteurized?
If so, do you have your own milk cow?
I don't know anywhere that sells it legally. I doubt I've had raw milk since we first moved to the country when I was 6 yrs old.
I doubt I could eat all that, but it sounds delicious.

Yes, unpasteurized, straight from the cow with cream on top. One day I hope to have our own cow but for now we get it from a couple local stores. You aren’t gonna find it at any big chain super market because they say it is very dangerous to drink.... lol. Been drinking it for the past 10 years 😉

Not sure where you live, but I thought it was illegal to sell unpasteurized milk here in the states.
I may be wrong. We used to make our own butter too

In some states it is. They were throwing the Amish people in jail for selling it to their neighbors. It’s sad really.

I can get 1/2 gallons in a glass jar even.
