Preparing Stir-Fried Kangkung (Water Spinach) and Fried Mullet Fish For Breakfast

Hello everyone, I'd like to share what we prepared for our breakfast in one morning. It's the stir-fried water spinach and fried belanak (mullet) fish. We got them from the local market. I never ate belanak fish, but the seller in the market convinced us to try.

So, here is how we prepared them.

First, I cut the water spinach into smaller pieces. The way I did it was to take a stem and cut it in the middle of the stem to divide it into two parts. Next, I took each half and cut them again into smaller pieces. To be honest, I enjoyed doing that. I wonder why.

When I finished cutting all the leaves, I washed them under running water. And after making sure all was clean, I boiled the leaves in hot water for about 2 minutes. The purpose was to soften the stem and the leaves. It was a quick boil.

In the meantime, my wife prepared the seasoning ingredients. She sliced some onions, garlic, and chili. Next, she fried them together in palm oil.

After two minutes or so, she put the water spinach (that I have steamed before) into the frying pan. Then she stirred it to mix with the other ingredients. She kept on frying for about a minute or so, and finally, the stir-fried water spinach was ready.

We also prepared fried mullet fish. The seller we bought from in the local market told us the fish was delicious. Since I have never eaten such fish, I just believed the seller. And the fish did look fresh, so we decided to buy some.

We asked the seller to cut and clean the fish, which she happily did. That made our job easier since all we need to do was to prepare the seasoning for the fish and then fry them.

For the seasoning, we mixed and ground turmeric, sea salt, and water in the pestle and mortar. We mixed these ingredients with the fish and let it soaked for half an hour. Later we fried them in palm oil.

Yum, looked good. So, the menu for our breakfast for that day was stir-fried water spinach, fried mullet fish, and steamed rice. What do you think?
