Let's have some Pickle | Homemade 'Hog Plum Pickle' recipe!
This pickle is something different, no? You may have never heard about it earlier. We also don't usually make hog plum pickles but occasionally for sure. It's tasty and easy to prepare. As it's very rare to see readymade hog plum pickle at supermarkets so I decided to try it home.
Let's see what we need.
- Fresh green Hog plum (half kg)
- Sugar
- Salt
- Ripe Tamarind
- Mustard oil
- Mixed spice powder
- Dried red chili
- Five spices/Panch Phoron
The recipe is very easy to follow and doesn't need much time. So, we need to peel off the hog plum and wash them well. Put one cup of mustard oil on the pan, put Five spices, Dried red chili, and fry for a minute. Then pour all the hog plum and cook for fifteen minutes.
After fifteen to twenty minutes, the plan will start to mashed. Add a teaspoon of the salt, sugar as per your taste, add three seeds (skin on) of ripe tamarind. The tamarind helps to balance the taste of sugar and plum.
And then add some mixed spice powder. Cook it for another couple of minutes. You will see something like stir-frying at the bottom, at that moment turn off the heat. And your pickle is done.
It's good to go with rice, curry or you can enjoy it just like this. Try it, you will love the texture of hog plum and the taste.
