Chia Pool Protocol ist live!

Hallo zusammen,

wie vor einer Weile schon berichtet hat das Team um Bram Cohen an einer Pool Lösung gearbeitet, das Release ist heute vor ungefähr 5 Stunden erschienen und bringt im wesentlichen die neue Portable Plot (zur Teilnahme an Pools) Lösung und viele weitere Verbesserungen, hier geht's zu den Release Notes für die Version 1.2.0.

Was sind die Vorteile der portable Plots?

Naja, das ist relativ einfach erklärt. Chia ist eine Proof Of Time & Space Cryptocurrency und wird durch das zur Verfügung stellen von Festplattenspeicherplatz gemined. Um diesen Platz zur Verfügung zu stellen muss ein Plot(Feld) auf der Festplatte angelegt werden, das ist ein relativ zeitintensiver Prozess je nach dem welche Hardware man zur Verfügung hat. Jeder dieser Plots hat dann die Chance in einem Losverfahren die nächsten 2 Chia Coins zu gewinnen. Logisch ist also, wer mehr Plots hat hat mehr Chancen zu gewinnen.
Das führte unter anderem dazu das Festplatten teurer wurden und eine große Menge an externen USB Festplatten ausverkauft waren, das heisst also das viele viele Leute sich hier eine Scheibe vom Kuchen abschneiden wollen.
Auf der Website Chia Calculator kann man gut einsehen wie lange man braucht um statistisch gesehen einmal zu gewinnen. Für normale Endanwender mit einer oder zwei Festplatten (5TB) ist diese Dauer inzwischen auf fast 4 Jahre angestiegen. Und sie wird natürlich mit dem stetigen Wachstum der zur Verfügung stehenden Speicherplatzmenge stetig weiter steigen.

Das ist doch eine sehr lange Zeitspanne

Das macht also so überhaupt keinen Sinn mehr.

Hier kommen die portable Plots ins Spiel, diese erlauben euch die Anbindung an einen Pool, also eine Gemeinschaft von vielen kleineren Farmern, bei denen die Speicherplatzmenge zusammengezählt wird, die also so eine größere Chance haben Chias zu gewinnen und dadurch einen stetigeren Inflow an Coins garantieren können. Dabei kommt es natürlich darauf an wie viele kleinere Farmer sich dann diesen Pools anschliessen.

Nachteile

Wenn ihr bisher noch keine Plots habt, also alte Solo-Farmer-Plots, dann habt ihr mit dem portable Plot update keine Nachteile.
Falls ihr allerdings schon alte Plots angelegt habt steht ihr jetzt vor einem kleinen Problemchen, diese alten Plots sind nicht mit den neuen kompatibel, das heisst entweder ihr fahrt eine zweigleisige Strategie und lasst die alten noch im Solo-Mode farmen und erstellt die neuen im portable Mode oder ihr erstellt eure gesamten Plots noch einmal neu.
Solltet ihr nicht der halbwegs normale Enduser sein und ne große Menge an Solo Plots haben könntet ihr euch natürlich auch dazu entscheiden einfach weiter im Solo Mode zu bleiben, denn die portable Plots erhöhen nicht die generellen statistischen Chia Einkommen sondern nur die statistisch Häufigkeit von dann kleineren Einzelauszahlungen.

Fazit

Ich weiss noch nicht so genau ob ich jetzt umbaue auf portable, die Vorteile liegen klar auf der Hand, aber ich weiss noch nicht genau ob ich bei Chia weiterhin am Start sein will. Sobald ich eine Entscheidung getroffen habe sage ich euch Bescheid :)
Generell ist das aber ein super Update, vorallem die kleineren Farmer können darüber ein halbwegs stetiges Chia Income generieren und müssen nicht ewig warten und auf ihr Glück vertrauen.

As already reported a while ago, the team around Bram Cohen worked on a pool solution, the release appeared about 5 hours ago today and essentially brings the new Portable Plot (for participation in pools) solution and many other improvements, here it goes to the release notes for version 1.2.0.

What are the advantages of portable plots?
Well, that's relatively easy to explain. Chia is a Proof Of Time & Space Cryptocurrency and is mined by making hard disk space available. In order to make this space available, a plot (field) must be created on the hard drive, which is a relatively time-consuming process depending on which hardware is available. Each of these plots then has the chance to win the next 2 Chia Coins in a lottery. So it is logical that who has more plots has more chances of winning.
Among other things, this led to hard drives becoming more expensive and a large number of external USB hard drives sold out, which means that many, many people want to cut a slice of the cake here.
On the website Chia Calculator you can see how long it takes to statistically win once. For normal end users with one or two hard drives (5TB), this duration has now increased to almost 4 years. And of course it will continue to increase with the steady growth in the amount of available storage space.

So that doesn't make any sense at all.

This is where the portable plots come into play, they allow you to be connected to a pool, i.e. a community of many smaller farmers, where the amount of storage space is added up, so they have a greater chance of winning chias and thus guarantee a steady inflow of coins can. Of course, it depends on how many smaller farmers then join these pools.

disadvantage
If you don't have any plots yet, i.e. old solo farmer plots, then you have no disadvantages with the portable plot update.
If you have already created old plots, however, you now face a little problem, these old plots are not compatible with the new ones, that is, you either drive a two-pronged strategy and let the old ones farm in solo mode and create the new ones in portable Mode or you create all of your plots from scratch.
If you are not the halfway normal end user and have a large amount of solo plots, you can of course also decide to simply stay in solo mode, because the portable plots do not increase the general statistical chia income but only the statistical frequency of then smaller ones Single payouts.

Conclusion
I am not sure yet whether I will convert to portable, the advantages are obvious, but I do not yet know exactly whether I want to continue to be at the start with Chia. As soon as I have made a decision I will let you know :)
In general, this is a great update, especially the smaller farmers can generate a reasonably steady chia income with it and don't have to wait forever and trust their luck.
