It is only today that I got to see the movie 'Mulan', produced in the year 2020. An animated version by Disney had been released in the year 1998.
A lot is to be said about the movie of 2020. One must admit that it is easy to animate than to show a live-action movie with actual human beings.
Mulan is the story of a young lady who chooses to go to war instead of her disabled father.
Mulan is a girl who is very quick, eager to learn, and unlike the other girls and therefore, she is quite disinterested in becoming a 'wife' material. A sudden turn of events occurs when each family is asked to send a man to war. Fearing for her father's life, Mulan takes on his armor and sword and rides away on his horse. She meets with minor difficulties but it does not deter her from fighting for the empire. A witch lady who discovers that she is a woman ends up helping her and she conquers the enemy and is honored by the emperor.
I have seen both the animated and the action movies and I feel both are good. There is no such thing as 'too scary for kids. IN fact, the live-action movie has gone to extra trouble to create sets and shoot scenes which require a lot of efforts such as the war scenes and fights and special effects too.
There has been a lot of criticism and the movie did not garner a huge box office collection but that was mainly because of the pandemic situation, too, probably.
A complete entertainer
Mulan is a complete entertainer. I am sure you, the viewer would love to watch it. There is not a dull moment in the movie and it does not drag. It is not a musical either.
