In the learning process, we often find teachers who give certain treatment to students, the goal is to change the behavior of students themselves.

There are several things the treatment or consequences given by the teacher to students to change student behavior. Generally, this type of consequence is done depending on the condition of the student.

  • Negative Consequences
While the negative consequences (punishment), is a reward given by the teacher to naughty students. This is useful as a deterrent effect for them so not repeat the same mistake. These consequences are given not based on anger. But because of the teacher's desire to change student behavior from being naughty to being an obedient or good student.

The rewards given are specific to students who have committed mischief that cannot be tolerated. The punishment given is not too broad, rather, the punishment is educational but has a deterrent effect.

  • Consequences for students who behave manipulatively

Manipulative behavior is an action taken by students to try to distort the facts and the situation so that they get their needs. Generally, this behavior is carried out by students who want to gain more power than their teacher. Students who are manipulatively must be given consequences by providing explicit education, the consequences given must also involve parents. This is done to maintain the authority of a teacher.

To the teacher, all parties of the school, and also parents must work together in giving consequences to students. So students can really have polite behavior. In granting consequences, especially negative consequences must be applied a logical consequence in accordance with regulations and procedures that apply in schools and in the law.

Parents and teachers also need to agree on one another with every consequence that applies. The most important thing is to be consistent and not selective. It means consistent with giving consequences and must be fair at the time the consequences are given, each student whether the student is an achiever, a rich kid, naughty students are all the same in front of the teacher when they do something that violates the code of ethics or school rules.
