Introduction

The important thing is to be aware that our children's learning of mathematics is not only formed in schools, but that we as their representatives can be pillars as a source of inspiration for them to learn such a controversial science as mathematics, since it is mistakenly thought to be something very difficult to learn.

After assimilating the fact that we ourselves can help our children to learn mathematics, then we can apply some very useful strategies so that the little ones see this learning as something easy to approach.

With the pandemic of covid-19 many parents have had to dedicate time to their children's learning, and due to the lack of face-to-face education, they have had to join in to be part of their children's learning, however many do not know how to approach it.

If we consider that as parents we no longer remember many mathematical concepts or know how to operate many of the exercises we saw in our youth, then the goal of this should be to apply some of the strategies that I am going to explain in this article, and that everything serves so that our children do not face the learning of mathematics with fear and as something very difficult to learn.

Strategies

  • We want the child to feel that we are learning together with him/her.

If we are one of those parents who no longer remember what we learned about mathematics in our youth, then we should simply take advantage of this situation so that the topics that we have to explain to our young child we learn together with him.

If our child feels that we are accompanying him on the path of knowing mathematics with him, he will surely feel that it is not so difficult if we are learning it too.

  • Emphasize the importance of beginning to learn mathematics through the topics that are easiest to assimilate.

Explaining this is something very simple, if we explain it to our children with an example, if someone is about to build a building, but does not know or have no idea how to do it, the important thing is to go for the easiest, but in turn that has greater importance, and this is that you can start by building the foundations on which the construction of the building is going to be based. From here on the important thing is that you have already learned to build the bases, everything you learn from here on is little by little, always climbing in the knowledge derived from going from the simplest to the most difficult.

For example, if we are going to teach fractions with different denominators to our son, we must make sure that he knows how to perform the basic algebraic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, because what is the use of starting to teach him fractions if he does not know how to perform the basic operations, then as a conclusion we teach him the basic algebraic operations and then we go on scaling little by little.

  • Spend some time so that what they have learned in mathematics is useful in real life.

Many of the factors that make our children get bored of wanting to learn mathematics is that what they have learned or what they are about to learn does not have a use in real life, so this discourages them. The strategy would be that while we are explaining the mathematical concepts we associate them to everyday aspects of real life, this will also help to fix their learning and encourage them to learn new concepts.

  • For nothing in the world should our help for our children to learn mathematics generate fear in the one who is learning it.

If we justify to our children that they are not learning mathematics because it really is a difficult science to learn, and that even when we were young we had the same thing happen to us, then they will end up accepting their unfounded fears and taking them for granted.

If there are difficulties in the learning path of our children in relation to learning mathematics, what we must explain to them is that the small difficulties of not understanding some concepts is part of learning, but with discipline and care is corrected until we learn and we are good learners in mathematics.

Conclusion.

Basically it is important to be with our children throughout the learning process, start with them this process going through the easiest concepts to learn, and gradually move up the level, associating the concepts learned with real life examples is very motivating both for our children and for our little ones who learn with us.

It is important to keep our children away from any negative comments about learning mathematics, all with the intention of losing the fear of learning this beautiful and important basic science.

Education is a process that should be extended to different areas, not only is learned in school, nor justly only teaches the teacher, the important thing is to be able to apply some strategies that make easier the process of learning mathematics in our children, especially when you do not have within reach a classic teaching-learning process in person as we are accustomed to.
