Every school must provide homework for each of their students, this task should be done at home and is usually given a few days' time to complete and collected in school at the time of the lesson schedule. However, giving homework is actually ineffective, because the majority of students do not really do the assignment properly.

There were some students who just made the assignment at school, they usually look at their friends' assignments. There are also those who make it at home but also helped by their parents. In fact, parents may help their children with household chores, but there are limitations and should not be involved in working too often They only guide.

Why parents should not be often involved in the child's homework.

According to some psychologists' opinions, homework assistance from parents was associated with lower achievement and not related to children's academic involvement or motivation. Children who often get help from their parents in doing homework will lose their motivation and enthusiasm for learning.

They will think "this homework is very easy because it will definitely be helped by parents" they will not put more effort into solving every problem assigned to the homework. But there are several other negative effects on why parents shouldn't be involved too often in the manufacture of children's homework, namely:

  • Children can lose their enthusiasm for learning
The more involvement of parents in the process of carrying out children's homework, then the children will lose the enthusiasm to learn. Fewer children are willing to learn and do homework independently. Especially if parents continue to sit and control their children in the process, they will have low motivation to learn. While children whose parents do not control, and seldom more deeply involved in the process, will have a desire to learn new things.

  • Inhibits child development.
A study reveals that the role of parents in helping children do homework can hinder the development of children in their knowledge and skills abilities. This is due to the way parents communicate, which may suppress or involve parents as a whole. So that it makes children become inferior, lose their confidence.

Although in this article I write about the negative impact of parental involvement on the homework process, this does not mean that parents should not be involved in this process. The role of parents still cannot be eliminated but must have restrictions such as not being 100% involved. And also parents who often help their children, must use good communication and do not pressure or scold children when doing homework.

Help is fine, but a lot of the new generation parents wants to do everything for their kids and never teach them to think for themselves or face consequences.
