Fishing Strategy for the Surf in Southern Florida

Fishing Strategy for the Surf in Southern Florida

My latest interest is fishing, are you surprised? Like anything I start getting into, I first like to create a strategy so that my opportunity for success is maximized. If you have any interest in surf fishing in Florida, this is the post for you!

Lure Choices

Rapala Lure

Use Case: Off of bridges, around the inland or near the shore. Best to use early morning. Fisherman say it's good to catch ladyfish, jacks, snook, grouper, flounder and even mangrove snapper

Yo-Zuri Minnow

Use Case: Identical use as the recommendation for the Rapala Lure, the Yo-Zuri Minnow Lure is a bit more arched so it's better for diving towards the bottom. So if you try the Rapala, the fish just might be a little bit deeper and the Yo-Zuri Minnow might help you find them!

It's also recommended that you get this kind of metallic type of lure. The colors are something you can always experiment with once you've tried the recommendation!

Paddle Tail Swim-bait with Jig-Head

I learned that with swim-bait, and something I think a lot of people forget is adding the jig-head.

Use Case Cast out just off shore and let the line sink to the bottom. Once it's at the bottom just bounce the line so the fish think the bait is some type of shrimp.

This lure can cover a lot of different depths and makes a great addition to your tackle-box. Fishermen find that this lure is excellent for catching Spanish Mackerel, which makes for really good eating!

Setting Up a Rig for Surf

I found this cheat sheet below online the other day and thought it explains the set up for a rig perfectly. This is exactly how most of my rigs are set up and where the bait is where I will experiment with the different lures mentioned above.

Fishing on the surf has always been a challenge for me in the past, so I've been doing some on-line research to maximize my success.

There are a lot of different rigs and lures out there and it can be overwhelming if you walk into a fishing store without a plan. I'll be documenting the success of my surf fishing adventures overtime and will try and figure out what's best.

That way, if you're ever in South Florida looking to do some fishing, you have a place to start here on Hive!

The Fisherman

So I'm officially going to start calling myself a fisherman now.

I live in Florida and have a rod, I can go out anytime I want to because a great place to saltwater fish is less than 15 minutes for me to walk too.

I already know I'm going to have a lot of fun fishing and I want to know what I'm doing so that by the time my son is old enough, he actually thinks I'm an expert! Time will tell if this new dream of mine comes to fruition, but at least I have a place to share my journey.

Putting this post together actually helped educate me on my own strategy even more. I'd recommend using Hive to even document whatever it is you're trying to learn about yourself, seems like a pretty good way to add more value to the blockchain as well.

Hope you guys learned something new about fishing, I know I did from my research here!

Wish me luck fellow out there everyone, and thanks for stopping by friends!

I love surf fishing! I grew up doing that on our every-other-month Baja fishing trips with my father!
