Freeze Dried Fish, New Batch Run, Elf Hats, Trying meals - Monday
Over 40 hours later the trout were done. Well, all but 2 of them were done. The largest of the fish was still a bit soft on the back so they got set aside while I bagged up the other 12 into 2 bags. I used a mylar bag and then some of the vacuum bag from our vacuum sealer that comes in a roll.
6 trout fit perfectly and I tossed in an oxygen absorber in each. The 6 fish weigh about 9 oz dry and they started out at 3 pounds. A lot of water content to them.
Once the unit had defrosted and I had the pump oil changed I got the next batch of trays ready. This was to be a mix of things to try out. The first tray got a load of shredded sharp cheddar.
The next tray I used the small ice cream scoop and plopped blops of greek yogurt out.
The 3rd tray got plain tofu, left over taco beef, and amino drenched tofu.
The 4th tray got cream cheese blops and the rest of the shredded cheddar.
The 5th tray got sliced bell pepper and an avocado sliced up.
I had the unit running again by 12:30 and this morning it had finished fully.
In the evening my Mom came up to give the boys their elf hats and to put their presents under the tree since she is heading south for a couple weeks. Both boys are super stoked on them and will be able to wear them for years.
For dinner I made up the two freeze dried meals I had made last week. I used 2 cups of boiling water for each and they came out PERFECTLY! The flavorings were pretty solid and they only need a little extra but I am all in on these now. They taste good and they regained consistency quickly.
I have been accepted as an affiliate for Harvest Right now and you can use the link below. I'd greatly appreciate anyone who does use it as you can see what I am doing with it. I will continue to push stuff through it and show what amazing output it gives.
Today I already pulled the trays from the freeze dryer with them being finished so now I await the defrosting to put the trays back in. I'll be doing tomatoes and apples for sure, maybe something else if I need to fill a tray.

Interesting to learn this method of freeze drying food, nice to know what you put in by making your own nourishing meals.
Great results from utilizing this method, well done!

It is a really awesome means of saving food. So much produce goes to waste due to lack of shelf life, but this fixes that. Shelf stable dairy, fruit and vegetables, meats and eggs.
Being able to store like this without waste is a terrific idea!
I continue to enjoy seeing how your experiments turn out.
I'm having a blast trying them all out and learning. This thing is pretty amazing and I am only touching the surface of what can be done with it.

Very cool about being an affiliate! I was delighted to read about the first meal and what a success it was.
