We Got Our Freeze Dryer - Thursday
It finally arrived! Fedex stopped by at 10:00 am and he was in a semi and trailer so I went out to get it in the truck. It got slid into the bed and I brought it in the yard. The thing is not light and it is pretty bulky so I had to get my ramps to get it out of the truck. I then used the dolly to wheel it into the house.
The smaller box had the vacuum pump, sealer, bags, hose, oil filter, and instructions.
As I was rolling it in the house through the front door I noticed that I had the furniture dolly with the board attached. It looked to be the right size for the dryer and when I set it on it it was PERFECT!
In the kitchen I have an open half of my old stove electrical that is dedicated to the dryer. I have ample wire beneath the center island but I want a long run outside of it so we run move the dryer all around.
It takes a 20a 120v outlet which I thought I had in the tool shed. I added crimped ends to the wire and then fed it into the box. I got it all ready to go and went to plug in the dryer and found that the outlet I had was 240v and would not work. @stryeyez was off work early and had gone to the hardware store for xmas lights and for my outlet, but the employee who helped her grabbed an outlet from the bin and did not look at it as it was the wrong one. Once she got home I saw it was wrong and drove back up and picked up the correct one. When I was looking in the bin I saw the reason why I got the wrong one, there were 120 and 240 volt mixed together.
So back home I got the correct outlet installed in the box and added the face plate.
My board is perfectly sized so that the vacuum pump sits right behind the dryer. Right next to it is the perfect amount of space for me to mount the electrical box that will have the extension on it with a plug on the end. I am going to install an outlet on the center island that I can then plug the extension into.
Plugged it in and it started right up.
We ran through the system test of freezing then vacuuming and it went perfectly. Before bed we got a load of some squash as our sacrifice to get the "new car smell" out of the unit. I had some soft and not saleable squash left that we used. It can go to the animals as we just need to absorb the smell.
This morning it is nearly done with the cycle after about 10 hours. We only put in 2 trays to start with but we have 20 pounds of apples that will get run through it next.
This afternoon I am heading north to camp for a night or two and MAYBE try to do some bouldering if it is not too cold. If anything may just hike and scope climbs for next season.

Holy Freeze Dried Awesomeness! I am so excited for you to get your dryer! I've had my eye on such a thing for years, but the darn teenagers cost me so much money, lol! I can't wait to read about all your freeze dried adventures with the unit! It looks like it definitely doesn't take up very much space, which is a thing I truly do appreciate:)

Ooooh, you are a brave soul to go camping in these temperatures, especially if it's in a tent!
Very cool!
