Response to Ecotrain Question of the Week on Shifting Our Perspective - Spare A Thought For...

@Ecotrain 's question for this week is a little different in that it is not really a question but has us try to change our perspectives by thinking of other's suffering instead of our own. (details here)

Shifting Our Perspective and Spare A Thought For...

During these trying times, where many are in lockdown and have been for months, I can't help but turn my mind to the suffering of those cooped up in small apartments, cut off from the outdoors and nature.

Even our own @riverflows, founder of @naturalmedicine, has been put into quarantine (she calls it quarantine prison). Not only did they have their traveling plans thwarted, having them stuck in another country of the UK for some time, but when they finally realized there would not be any traveling this year they got a ticket home to Australia where they have a lovely, productive acreage and family. But to add insult to injury, the Australian government requires you to go into quarantine in a hotel for two weeks. You can not self isolate at home like what they did on arrival to the UK but they had to go to the quarantine hotel with a small room that had no opening windows - yikes - doesn't sound like a very healthy place to me!

Fortunately they did some planning ahead of time so those two weeks wouldn't be spent just on t.V. or screen time. They included yoga, meditation and @riverflows took it as an opportunity to do some catch up with Natural Medicine, the extra chores that had got pushed aside while they were traveling, maybe even get ahead on some posts.

I find that hard to imagine living like this for going out for exercise, fresh air and sunshine is part of my self care and helps keep me vibrant and healthy!

I must say all of this confinement and social distancing makes me very grateful for what I have!

I live in the forest where I step out my door into a pine meadow and have been living a rather isolated lifestyle anyways, always prepared with supplies so I make minimal trips to town.

These lock downs have me think of the elderly or disabled who were considered shut ins. This was their way of life already and how difficult it must be to be cut off from society when it is not of your choosing! I think how different people handle it differently - there are those that have meaning and purpose in their life, those circumstances don't seem to bother them, while others are complaining and miserable, even falling into depression.

I know of people in lock down situations who have been very creative to make their situations work for them and kudos to the mothers with children doing their best to ensure their children can still grow to their greatest potential even in these limited situations.

Kudos also to the authors, artists, entrepreneurs who have been offering their work at no cost or reduced costs making things more accessible and to ease peoples struggles.

There are many bright lights shining in the darkness which has fallen with the pandemic. This gives me hope that our sense of humanity and compassion can prevail, making for brighter futures!

Thanks for stopping by!

Dear @porters, this is so true, that while some of us have the liberty of spaces, there are millions who are confined in small spaces and it is so frustrating. Their mental health is draining, not everyone has the capacity to be sane in such circumstances. I feel that if it goes on for a long time even the most balanced person would get affected. @riverflows is really strong to be going through this. We realize that our freedom is so important, which we never thought would be taken away to this extent.
