Picking Interesting and Peculiar Stones From Our Backyard

avatar

It's almost 10 months now since we were told to stay home. So how do you manage to keep yourself entertained at home?

Last month, my mother told me that she saw interesting rocks in the backyard and so in the afternoon, after she picked some sweet potato leaves, we went to look for some nice-looking stones. I have nothing else to do that time so why not go out and look for some nice-looking rocks. At the state we are in, anything that can keep you entertained is important. Haha.

I don't know much about how stones are made, although I know that it takes a long time for it to be formed. I haven't thought of looking closer to the stones in our backyard and so I'm glad my mother is very observant of her surroundings.

Let's take a look at some of the stones we picked!

First, will be this white stone with black spots. It looks like a cow's color pattern but I would rather call it cookies and cream. :)

Well, we also found a stone with its color opposite to the cookies and cream rocks. This one have darker base with white spots. I think the stone on the right is similar to the first one.

Next are stones with nice shapes, a triangle and a teardrop. When I saw this on the ground, I immediately picked it up. I love the teardrop shaped stone most!

These stones have really nice pattern but what makes them beautiful and special from the rest is that they sparkle when you try to move it around under a light. It looks like it's not very noticeable in the photo but the stone seems like it has glitters on it. So lovely.

Next are small stones with cool patterns. I like the white straight-lined stones most.

Here are more small stones which differ in color. The one on the upper left is actually almost orange in color. The upper middle is a shade of green. And the upper right stone is colored white.

Meanwhile, I have to take a solo photo of this stone because the texture of it is very smooth. Haha. I just love finding stones with very smooth texture.

Last, would be the big stones which are about 1.5 to 2 inches long. Each of them has different color and pattern. The stone at the bottom left is what I like most, but looking at the photo, the stone on the bottom middle looks nice too. These big stone were picked by my mother.

I don't really collect rocks, it is my mother who loves collecting. She would usually look for stones whenever we go to a beach out of town. It serves as a remembrance for her. What I like collecting, however, are sands from faraway beaches we've been to. But for now, I only have two. Hehe. Maybe when the pandemic ends, I can go visit some beaches and continue collecting sand. Don't worry because I only take very little amount of sand with me, about four tablespoons maybe. Haha. For now, I we would just get ourselves amused with our surroundings.

Do you collect rocks as well?

Certainly after visiting a place it is pleasant to keep some object for our memories of such experiences. The stones you picked with your mom are quite nice. Thanks for sharing!
