ecoTrain Question Of The Week Season 6 #3 - COMMUNE-ICATION --> SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNICATION

It has been rightly said above, Communication is a very important tool. What's there in your mind or what you feel cannot be realized without proper and effective communication.

In this blog, I'm going to touch base on a very critical topic related to communication - SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNICATION

We all are living in the world of Social Media and we think of it as WOW! We believe how difficult communication would have been if Social Media sites and applications weren't there. So all of us think of it as a boon, right?

But have we ever thought about our lives before Social Media came into effect? Back then, I remembered birthdays and anniversaries of my loved ones; I used to wait for the clock to strike 12 and people to call and wish me; the entire day phone buzzing to wish me on my special days; clicking good pictures using my camera and then waiting for people to come and see those pictures; missing someone and them calling them to tell how much we miss them. Where has all of it gone? I don't remember birthdays now because I rely on Facebook; I wish my friends on WhatsApp, I don't get wish calls at 12 anymore, the moment I click pictures I upload them on Facebook or send it to people via WhatsApp for them to see, I use WhatsApp emoticons to say I Love You; I don't visit my friends that much now.

I'm not sure how people perceive this change but according to me, the old ways of communication where we used to call each other or give a visit to chit chat was way much better. I sed to receive may by 10-12 calls on my birthdays but all of them were from those who truly love me and care for me. Now I get 100s of WhatsApp and Facebook messages, sometimes from people I don't even know. We think communication has become easier now but I think that communication has lost its real sense. We indulge ourselves more in meaningless communications rather than real ones. The very essence of communication - calling someone to talk to them because you miss them is gone now.

With all said above, there's one more major drawback I see with the social media communication - MISUNDERSTANDING.

While typing and chatting, people fail to draw lines and end up writing incessantly which is really bad. It is very difficult to express your true feeling via chats and messages. What you are writing may be interpreted in the wrong sense by the other person which leads to heated arguments, cold wars, and unnecessary drama.

All in all, through this blog, I mean to communicate that we should use these tools of communication judiciously. These are essentially turning human feelings into robotic ones which, very soon, will result in meaningless relations too.

P.S. I do a lot of social media communication and I need to change myself too here.

Really want to hear everyone's thoughts on this topic.

I agree. I loved the old times. There’s is no more excitement of birthdays and anniversaries and that feeling of being special on your days doesn’t exist anymore.
